Thread: Thoughts on OSU qb's

  1. Default Thoughts on OSU qb's

I know a lot of outsiders and fans/media around other teams act like it's news that Gundy will use both Chelf and Walsh somewhat equally (at least until one shows competitive separation from the other), but I think most every Cowboy fan expected that. It's interesting that many are peeved that Walsh didn't outright win it or that Chelf didn't prove himself already.

Even though I'm in the Walsh camp I like this system and wouldn't even mind Chelf being mostly a first-down qb, as long as it's not an even/predictable Landry/Belldozer platoon. Chelf is too gutsy and too good of a scrambler to not use that just as JW is too efficient of a passer. My hope is that Gundy can use the roster we have to win another Big 12 title and keep JW fresh to go for another year or two, with the Zona transfer Dax Garman to redshirt waiting in the wings.

I would be curious to see if there is any way both could line up, with JW lining up beside Chelf in a similar formation that Tavon Austin did at WVU against OU. I also expect to see OSU once again at the top nationally in turnover margin as these guys now have a year of decision-making experience and the defense has been re-focused on hitting hard and getting turnovers.

Nice analysis. I really cannot tell the difference between the two QBs, although I think Chelf is slightly better. They both are very good. Gundy has done a great job recruiting and maintaining OSU's success, something no other coach has really accomplished. At this point, I think OSU has the edge to win the conference, though in the Big 12 anything can happen.

Chelf definitely has the better arm and has decent feet so I think he's the every down type of QB. I'd certainly like to see some packages for Walsh but I don't see the arm strength that would be required for most of OSUs offense.

No matter who plays, I see uptempo offense and lots of points. And if the defense gets back to the turnover forcing ways of '10 and '11, I see another big12 title.

I seem to think JW actually had the higher passer efficiency rating, despite playing against statistically better defenses and higher ranked teams at the time. Walsh led the time in passing and was even 3rd on the team for rushing TDs.

walsh did NOT lead the team in passing he did lead in efficiency but he did NOT play the better Defenses ... ie tcu ksu oklahoma (the pass d)

JW had 1568 and Chelf had 1588 after the "bowl" against Purdue. And you're calling OU one of the better D's...riiiiight. Besides the TCU game was Lunt, who finished with the worst passing efficiency rating.

so you admit that chelf was the leading passer thanks .... and you saw that i said pass d right? your were talking about passing efficiency after all

i guess 12th in the NCAA FBS is bad? 1st in the Big 12 14 spots ahead of tcu

again thanks for continuing to prove that you don't watch much college football
