Smile Anyone vote for a new movie theatre?

Okay so we have a new shopping center, with new stores, new restaurants etc you name it and norman is just growing and growing. Over 100,000 people live in norman and we have students who come here from all over the world to attend OU. Will someone please help us get a new movie theatre!!! Dont get me wrong i love the warren in moore, but dang can we please get our own 10 screen stadium theatre. I bet hollywood is just hurting with its terrible out of date seating, (why they claim its stadium seating is beyond me) its basically a small incline, and the damn arm rest dont even come up lol. Has anyone heard of how bad it is at hollywood. I know their jealous of the warren, i mean look at their parking lot on friday and sat nights lol its half empty and you go to warren and its insanity.

I think movie theaters are becoming somewhat out of date. With home theater components being so affordable for such a wide range of income levels, many are opting to watch the new blockbusters at home. I really love the theater experience but I don't like spending $20 to $30 for a movie that will be interrupted with ringtones and popcorn that was made during the last presidential administration. It's sad but a fact indeed. Technology is killing a former giant of entertainment.

im sure in edmond, every other person has an expensive home theatre system (jnsert Bose, JBL, Harmon Kardon, etc) complete with a 60 inch LCD flat screen and/or projection system in every room of their home, but for most others out there they either still have a conventional CRT TV of about 25"-32", or have recently upgraded to a flat screen tv of around 32", or maybe slightly larger and have it hooked up to a low entry model home theatre system and/or their shelf stereo system.

That being said, traditional cinemas are here to stay for a while, not to mention the fact the entertainment industry is one of america's most robust.

I think you must have not actually been to the Warren or if so your experience is dramatically different than mine.

The Warren actually makes me want to go to movies just for the experience of going.

Again with the class envy. What's wrong with being able to afford nice things? That used to be okay in this country.

When we see the Best Buy Magnolia, that's when you can start kissing your theatre goodbye. That's the point at which your local customers no longer go out because they have a better system at home.

I believe there was one planned for Memorial several years ago, but it never happened.

If the plans have not changed, they are going to build a new 10-12 screen theatre in Norman across from the Target. It is to be the main attraction of that phase of the development. Has this changed?

It IS true that I have not been to the Warren theater. I was speaking in general about the average movie theater. I don't see a lot of people going to the Hollywood like when it was new and I don't see others in OKC selling out either. I hope that my prediction is DEAD wrong and those that disagree with me are right as rain. BTW, I'm not rich or a resident of Edmond but I DO have a custom sound and video system that rivals anything I've experienced so far in the movie houses. Maybe I need to go to the Warren and see what digital electronics on a much grander scale can do for me.

If they build the theater in Norman, I say we have a forum get-together-movie-watch-party!

Warren Theater is godlike, but you get what you pay for, it has to be the best place in the south or maybe the US to see a movie right now, I mean if you can think of a better place then tell me, Ill go check it out, because I don't think there is one better currently.

As for Norman, I remember when they opened Hollywood, it was amazing, but now its a dump. I don't think they ever opened those 2 satellite concession stands since grand opening and I remember they have had to shut down a few times because of the health dept. If the prices were cheaper then I would say its worth it, but I will drive and pay a little more for a better experience. Norman needs a new theater and it doesn't have to be a Warren, they could just remodel the old one at least.

The Hollywood needs to be closed down so they can...
    1) Fix that intersection with I-35 to allow the service road to be two way all the way to the light.

    2) Construct another hotel or other development that would be more worthwhile to that area.

As far as the new theater in UNP, not sure what is up with it. Unfortunately if it isn't a Warren quality setup, I won't be going there.

Most of the UNP plans have been scrapped. They're "re-envisioning" it. It didn't turn out the way they expected and with OU pulling out of the contract to build the lifestyle center, a lot has been put on hold until the economy gets better and other alternatives can be looked at.

I don't know what that means for the possibility of a new theater. But if we do get a new theater in north Norman, it's going to have to be better than Warren or be a specialty theater because if it is not on Warren's level, it will fail as people simply continue to drive to Moore.

To build on par with the Warren might be silly, might not. Depends on whether access is superior to access at the Warren (not a tough trick from the looks of things)

If there were superior access, the distance between largely becomes negligible.

However, I don't expect to see a Warren, or better, facility added to Norman.
I'd like to see it, but I don't expect I will.

Something along the lines of an Alamo Drafthouse would make sense to me.
