Default State of the Forum, March 2013

Thought I would provide a little update...

As most know, we had a real bout with hackers for about two months and it seems we finally have things under control. No real issues for a few weeks now.

What we've had to do is seriously lock down the registration and new post process, which requires a lot of manual intervention such as verifying email addresses, running IP checks, etc. This means it takes a little longer to approve new posts and posters and hopefully we aren't accidentally deleting people with good intentions.

However, we are still getting a couple of dozen bogus registration attempts every day. It takes time and diligence to research each one, so apologies to anyone who has experienced slight delays in the approval process. We do our best to sort through this stuff at least once and optimally twice a day.

We also have paid to have the site cleaned up and monitored. All these changes seem to be effective.

Thank you to all those that have subscribed or recently renewed your subscription. It helps greatly to defray the various costs and is greatly appreciated.

If you haven't subscribed, we would very much appreciate your support:

Thanks to everyone that has helped to make this a great site and resource for Oklahoma City! Despite the recent glitches, our traffic is at an all-time high and continues to grow at a healthy rate. The best is still to come!

Will the "Like" button be made usable again? If not, will you remove it please?

Pete, on Feb 14 I mailed a money order to Thousand Oaks for an upgrade of my membership. Do you know if it was received?

    Yay!

FYI, when this forum was hacked and I couldn't get it for a few days, it was horrid. After that was resolved, I sniffed around about the nonfunctional *Like*. When the generous birthday greeting and offer landed in my inbox, how could I refuse, when somebody elses are paying for this, which I so enjoy?

If an unemployed right-of-center cheapskate such as myself can throw some coins your way, here's hoping for lots more green in your mailbox(es).

    Keep up the good work.

How's the like feature coming along? Is it still being fixed or. . . . .

Like the majority of other users out there on the web, I just switched to using Google Chrome. It works great for me except on OKCtalk where after clicking a thread link I frequently get a blank screen or this message:

    No data received
Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data.
    Here are some suggestions:
    Reload this webpage later.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.

I haven't been to any other vbulletin forums to know if it is platform related or not but so far after a few days, this is the only place I am having that problem. (Using XP Pro.) Am I the only on with this issue?

I've been using Chrome since it came out and haven't had any issues recently with it on this site.

Okay. Looks like the version I had installed might have been old. I updated and the problem may have cleared up.

(I found some old talk on the web about XP SP3 and Chrome beta not working right but I thought my install was a lot newer than that.)
