    It's time to start planning summer activites for the children and teens.
    Some of the ideas I have listed are things my boys have done, some aren't. I'll add more as I think of the them or receive information.

    We are moving at the beginning of summer and I realize it will be late to get my son, who is 16, into a camp. What I'm wondering is if there's a good summer soccer camp somewhere in or around the OKC area?

    Parks & Recreation
    Quality soccer, baseball and basketball leagues are open to boys and girls kindergarten through fifth-grade through the Parks and Recreation Department. Kids will have a ball learning basic athletic skills, game rules and good sportsmanship.

    Parents are encouraged to join the squad as a coach or team parent.

    Public libraries throughout Oklahoma will be the place to go for the 2007 Summer Reading adventure at their public library during June and July.


    Grade school children may join any time during the program dates and participate by reading books and attending storytimes and other special activities.

    Mini College is an all-day enrichment program designed to build on the academic experiences of young students entering grades 1 through 6 in the fall. Students participate in three classes each day and swim from 3-5 p.m. at the OU pool.

    University of Central Oklahoma Soccer Camp, UCO Campus 974-2501 or 974-2136 Improve your soccer skills! Featurings preparation for try-outs, basic ball skills, tactics & attitudes, physical training, quickness & flexibility. Each participant receives a T-shirt and written evaluation.     Junior Master Gardener
    Sprouts ages 7 to 12 can explore the world of horticulture by registering for Junior Master Gardener Classes offered each summer at the Gardens from 9:30 - noon. Registration is $30 and includes tuition for three classes, Crystal Bridge admission, plant ecology information and all gardening supplies needed to complete the camp. Classes are open to individuals and groups. Kids will experience hands-on activities while exploring plant growth, soils, waterfalls and our native flora and fauna thriving in the Crystal Bridge.     Roaming in the Rainforest Summer Classes
    Daycares, church camps and home schoolers can register for our popular Roaming in the Rainforest summer education program. Children will be treated to a Rainforest ecology puppet theater and make decisions impacting the Rainforest. Docents will assist kids while teaching them how to make a butterfly ring or create a butterfly habitat. Volunteers and group leaders will then launch on an informative tour of the Crystal Bridge. These classes are held every Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in June and July.

    WELCOME TO SUMMER YOUTH ACADEMY 2007

    Are the kids looking for something fun to do this summer? Moore Norman Technology Center is proud to present the 12th annual Summer Youth Academy (SYA)! SYA is an exciting program that promotes fun, learning opportunities for youth ages 9-16 years.

    Each one-week session meets for 12 hours, Monday through Thursday from either 9 a.m. to noon, or 1 to 4 p.m., beginning June 11 and continuing through July 12.

    Each 12-hour class is $65.

    Each class will meet during one of the following weeks:

    June 11-14
    June 18-21
    June 25-28
    July 9-12

    You may enroll online, by phone, or in person.

    Friday the Norman Public Library is hosting their annual Share Fair.
    This is a great opportunity to see what the community offers for kids
    in the summer. Bookstores will have information on the their summer
    reading programs as will the library. The local pools, museums, camps
    etc. will all have information to pass out. This is held in the Lowry room from 1 p.m.to 3 p.m.

    Friday and Saturday the Cleveland County Fairgrounds is hosting a
    Pioneer Exposition. Historical demonstrations begin at 1 p.m. on
    Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. Tractor pulls end the day at 7 p.m each
    evening. The farmers market will be open Saturday morning.
