Good post Doug, sad to see that OKC was more urban than it's trying to become. We had more hotel rooms than we have now AND had good public transportation.

Well, you might not have wanted to stay in some of those hotels (or any, by today's standards)! I'm just glad that we've come from only ONE downtown hotel to SIX in just a few years' time! I can dig it!

Doug are you going to be able to make it to the OCURA meeting tomorrow? I can't make it do to a conflict.

Ha ha! I've not been invited and I didn't know about it!

the Biltmore looks like it was a huge hotel. How many rooms did it have, and where was it located?

Smack in the middle of the Myriad Gardens.

OMG did you see what they did to the Oklahoma Club/Tivoli? Sickening. It was such a cool building in it's original form and I don't understand why you would cover that up with concrete.

That YWCA looks awesome too. Where was that?

All the above questions, and more, are answered in the text part of my blog post. But, to get to it, the YWCA was in the position of the new Norick library/learning center, and the Biltmore was at the NE corner of Sheridan and Harvey, and, according to a 3/8/1932 Oklahoma article, had 619 rooms.

I decided that the "Today" hotels needed some updating so here are some I took today ...

    Renaissance

    Courtyard

    Residence Inn

Lobby & Adjoining Room (Where Meals Are Served To Residents)

Thanks to you, too! I've updated that post today and expect that it will be one of the "ongiong" posts in my blog ... I'm learning as I go, and I don't know nuttin' much yet! Or, in other words, "The more I learn, I come to understand that I know less and less about more and more." That knowledge is part of what makes all of the Okc History learning and posting fun!

    Very much appreciate your comment.

My original blog post didn't have a "current" pic of the Sieber under construction, so I took this one today ... click the pic for a 1024 px wide view ...
