Thread: GoGo Gelato

    Default GoGo Gelato

Well, I haven't eaten here yet, but I know there are a lot on this website that complain that there isn't enough Gelato places around here. I reported on several I've eaten at or heard about and here is another. Just on western alone there is Saturn Grill, CocoFlow, GoGo Gelato, and a few blocks away is the Giovanni's Gelato next door to Johnnies on Wilshire.

Anyhow this place is at 4709 N. Western. Go check it out and come back and write us reviews!!

We tried Giovanni's the other night. It was very good and the toppings they put on the gelato in the case were cool. I haven't seen that before, even in London or New York.

    Where is GoGo?

BTW, it's not open yet. I walked up there and there are permits on the window and it looks like they are putting in a fenced in garden area to the north of it. They also have a beer license. Wade Starr's name was on the permits, which I believe is the same guy from Deep Fork who did Nova and some other places (including the one off upper Western that used to be owned by Johnnie's).

Anyway, should be another interesting concept for Western Ave.

BTW, it looks like this is now going to be "Wedge Pizzeria". Either that, or I never noticed the logo on the side of the building before.

Yep, noticed the "Wedge Pizzeria" sign a few days ago, as well.

Cocoa Flow is on Western (west side) just north of that location, and it has gelato, as does the Saturn Grill in Nichols Hills Plaza.

Wedge pizza also has gelato specials. The choices were vanilla, mocah, and pistachio when I went earlier this week.

Tried cocoa flow today... was a bit underwhelming.

The last time I had gelato, I was strolling the streets of Venice

They only had strange flavors... if you are expecting to get a "vanilla" gelato, sorry, they're not going to be able to help you. I tried a green apple/wasabi gelato. Sounds strange, eh? The taste wasn't bad.

My only complaint is the texture -- it was all off. It was pretty gummy compared to what I had in Italy. Perhaps they used corn syrup instead of sugar to make it?

Yeah, the texture was off...it was...stringy, which is odd. They don't make it in-house, so perhaps they might have a different ingredient that causes that texture. It was almost like there was gelatin in there...very strange to me.

The pink grapefruit tasted like pink grapefruit. It also had icier chunks in it, which would never be found in Italian gelato.

In Italy, I think every single gelateria makes their own stuff in-house, and it's amazing. Venice has by far the best, though...theirs was the most creamy in texture, and it was really cool how the servers could switch from one language to the next in a matter of a second. I heard them go from French to Italian to English when helping three different people.

But I digress...aaaah the memories. If you ever have a cold in Italy, fear not, for your sore throat will be soothed.

I hope to try another place soon and find something that's a little closer to the real thing.

BTW, don't even think about getting Gelato to go, or anything else for that matter, at the Wedge. They are pretty proud of themselves and won't let anything leave the restaurant. They're kind of butt holes about it. I mean, it's good, but it's not that good.

What are you talkiing about, BDP? I've been there several times and have never seen them giving anybody a problem about taking food with them.

I ate gelato for the first time in my life last night at Lino's Gelato & Grill on 152 in Mustang.

Since I've never had it before, I can't tell you how it compares...But I liked what I ate.

I love the different flavors that they have at Cocoflow.. Its awesome.. As far as Johnnies version of gelato, I think that it is really cheap tasting..

My favorite of all time tho is in Dallas.. Paciugo.. I wish someone would franchise it here..

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that we are a new gelateria in Norman and a lot of our customers like our gelato as well or better than Paciugo. If your down in Norman be sure to stop by and give us a try. We are on the Northwest corner of I-35 and Robinson in the Robinson Crossing shopping center. We carry 20 flavors of gelato and 4 flavors of sorbetto every day. Our store is called Il Dolce Gelato and our phone # is 329-7744. Hope to see you soon.

    Grazie e ciao,

    Neil

Dude, don't plug your gelato place on another restaurant's review thread, that's tacky and makes me not want to visit your store, you've already plugged your place in it's own thread.

On another note, welcome to this site and I hope you contribute on other topics as well.
