Thread: The Big Biscuit

  1. #1

    Northwest OKC The Big Biscuit

I noticed a sign for this restaurant location hung on the small strip mall that adjoins AutoZone at NW 63rd & N. May Ave.

I took these way back in May and must have never posted them.

We went to their Broken Arrow location recently and the food and service was great! This place puts Jimmy's Egg to shame.

It's good to see a breakfast restaurant finally return to NW 63rd St & N. May Ave. Does anyone remember the Denny's that used to located at that intersection? Great memories.

There's been a "Coming Soon" teaser for this location on Yelp for over four months. They must be waiting for FAA clearance or something.

Yeah, they filed their building permit last May.

Because they have locations across the country and that is just a generic menu for all.

I've been to the Edmond location.... Food and service was great.

I've adjusted to the higher breakfast prices everywhere but for those that haven't yet adjusted to the current cost of dining out.... You're probably not going to enjoy the prices.

Big Biscuit is good, but is a tier below Hatch and Neighborhood Jam imo, and yet priced about the same.

It is too expensive for what it is, and the ownership are on the asshole side of Jesus Freaks. Not my cup of tea.

That was my impression of Granny"s Kitchen that opened on south side. Denny's quality food/service at Hatch pricing.

It wasn't that long ago that we were all wishing for more breakfast/brunch options.

Now, there has been an avalanche.

AND....finally in SW OKC which has long been underserved by the nicer local restaurants. We now have sunnyside, granny's, and a Hatch and Neighborhood Jam opening up

I'd choose Sheri's over any of those personally.

We ditched Sunnyside a few years ago after trying it twice, just not that good (Classen location), and after eating at Hatch in AA a few times, ate at the one on I-35 in Edmond and were disappointed, I think we've just done everything there that we like and the quality isn't good enough to keep us coming back. Have seen Sheri's mentioned a few times, will have to try it. But we go to Sprouts every Saturday, so we're going to give Big Biscuit a try, it would be ridiculously convenient (the religious thing is kinda off-putting though, hopefully it doesn't bleed through into service, decor, etc.).

LOL, Big Biscuit does not share Hatch or Jam prices. Jam and Biscuit are in our weekend breakfast rotation and my family of 5 gets out of Jam for about $110-120, meanwhile out of Biscuit for about $85-90 and the service is really good. I love how you can get on the waitlist online, same as Jam.

Big Biscuit is more of a traditional type breakfast rather than upscale benedicts, smashed breakfast potatoes, candied bacon, shrimp and grits, etc. They have fantastic biscuits and hot cakes. They are a solid breakfast.

Big Biscuit does not have anything on the walls or tables about Jesus. I feel sorry for folks who let politics get in the way of good food.

I let politics get in the way of lots of things, it's how I stay true to myself and my convictions and beliefs. I am wondering, though, how somebody can be "on the asshole side of Jesus Freaks", what happened that made you say that, citywok.....?

This is why nobody can get along anymore unless you align politically with them. People today have allowed politics and religion to ruin families, friendships, and much more. It even keeps people out of good food.

I'm not going to bat for Big Biscuit on their religious beliefs because I don't know them nor care to, but nowhere in the place is there anything about Jesus and they don't talk about him. Actually they have large pictures all over of the local environment. Like in the Edmond location, all the pictures are of turn of the century Edmond up to about maybe the 1950s. They're really neat to look at.

One thing I do not like about BB is when you pay, they use a hand-held device and stand there while you calculate the tip and everything.

Well, not to get too political, but people haven't "allowed" politics to ruin things, politics itself ruining things.

But back to the restaurant, GTK about the local pics, always good to see (I actually just finished the Arcadia Publishing series of 3 OKC history books of postcards and have put the Vanished Splendor series on hold at the library). We have heard good things about it and we'll probably end up there a lot since we can literally park in one lot and eat and then go grocery shopping. And yes, I too hate the "watch while I pay" scenario, uncool. Places that have a revolving screen on a stand are way better in that respect.

I eat at the Big Biscuit in BA a lot. It's really good. Their country fried steak is fantastic. I ate at the one in Edmond last weekend and it was just as good.

YES!!!! Huge amounts of food, great prices and homemade cooking. I was just thinking the far sw area south of 240 but Sheri's is the best south of the river.

One of the few places left in town where I can get liver and onions.

I'm an old school Diner guy and that's exactly what Sheri's is... Not a fan of Hatch because I find everything to be a little over the top with seasoning. But that's just my old school diner mentatity.... I'm pretty much a two eggs over medium, sausage, hashbrowns with rye toast guy and that's not Hatch.... I'm ok with Sunnyside.

I'm spiritual but not fond of organized religion.... Until it was mentioned here. I had no idea Big Biscuit had any kind of religious agenda. Definitely didn't get that vibe when I ate at the Edmond location..... And really even if they do. About the only thing that might put me off is if they asked me to say a prayer before the meal or something like that.
