Thread: Chop Chop Flavors of Asia

  1. Arts District / Film Row Chop Chop Flavors of Asia

    Chop Chop Flavors of Asia
    409 N. Walker Ave.

I office just a block or two from this location and decided to give it a try today for lunch. Gotta say, I really liked it.

It's a small storefront type restaurant (think NYC street side) with a handful of tables. Clean and simple interior - only open now about 5-weeks.

I was greeted with a "Hello" and a friendly smile and some ordering suggestions.

I decided to order the following, to go; Shangri-La Beef (with fried rice) and the Karaage Chicken steamed Boa Buns.

Took about 7-minutes to get my order and it was package well. Well sealed containers with separately packaged sauces and cutlery.

I brought lunch back to work and opened in the break room. Immediately others in the room commented on how fresh it looked and smelled.

I ended up sharing with friends and everyone enjoyed the flavors.

The Boa Buns were definitely a hit.

Under $20 and easily feeds 2-3 people.

Definitely going to add this place to my regular lunch rotation.

I went the first week they were opened and I too had a good experience. The owner told me that they would be opening for dinner as well as lunch. I haven't been in town for the last 2 weeks so I assume that has already happened. I hope they do well as it is another place with good vegetarian options.

Yes, according to their menu in-house, they are open for dinner Wednesday - Friday 5pm-8pm.

Thanks. I'll try it for dinner when I get back into town next week.

Stopped by for lunch last week. I had the pork bowl, pictured below.

It was okay. Pork seemed to be stewed and bland. The rice was mushy. Entire dish didn't have much flavor apart from the ample amount of sriracha I poured on. Was very hot in there on a day in the 80's.

They also do that add-a-tip-at-the-pos thing which I really dislike.

Does anyone know if this place has a website or if their menu is located online? Would like to have a look.

Tried this the other day after seeing the gazette article, it was okay- I liked the Kaarage Chicken steam buns we split as an appetizer a lot more than the Shangri-La beef bowl I got.
3 steam buns and fries for $8 seems like a pretty good deal, but my only point of comparison is Ur/Bun which has to pay for its location. Chicken vs. chicken I probably liked the chop chop buns better but Ur/Bun has more variety and an unquestionably cooler location/atmosphere.

They had changed concepts to 106 Eatery but their Facebook page doesn't say anything about closing, although they haven't posted for about 10 days:

I walked by there this morning. Looks pretty deserted. No tables and some demolition to some walls.

I eat at Hobbies Hoagies quite a bit, and I walk by this spot every time. It has been closed/vacant since atleast mid February.
