I saw this proposed about a month ago and should have posted about it.
It's an existing business... Have a small amphitheater and wake board course.
But, they recently leased a bunch more land that is adjacent and owned by the city; obviously to expand and improve.
Looks pretty cool. It's a pretty interesting and unique setting.
I'm going to the Galantis & Snails show in August.
This is a pretty big deal. Trails, food trucks, camping music festivals?!?

You guys should read the comments on the KOCO fb post. Absolutely incredible.
Crazy.
For anyone that can't get FB at work, most of the comments are complaining about the OK State budget. Why aren't we paying teachers with this money, etc. It's a private development, that's why. Then they argue why aren't the private investors giving the money to schools/teachers/healthcare/etc.... Amazing.
I was talking to my coworker about this and he started telling me this is a fairly rough area. He went to school at Douglass said that area was known for gangs and shootings. I know times change and I honestly don't think there will be much of an issue for this venue.
Any thoughts or comments?
I, for one, am quite glad that the average Derplahoman commenting on news stories like that is outraged at the budget situation - even if the anger is misdirected at the wrong target. Let's just hope that anger carries through to November.
Now, that said - I'm super excited about the ampitheatres! It will be amazing to be able to host a huge music festival like that here in town. To my knowledge, the next nearest facility that could host an outdoor music festival like that is the place near Pryor where Rocklahoma is held - but I'm far from certain on this. But being able to host a huge thing like that, in town, is freaking amazing!
It boggles my mind that some people assume that everything built is funded by the government. If anything, this will help schools and the budget by bringing in a large amount of revenue. Especially if they can really turn it into a tourist attraction. All of the MAPS projects were funded by government. How much tax revenue for the city have they generated. MILLIONS!
I'm so happy to see this happening. I was on the property last month for Rugged Maniac, which had a camp center area. They had a small stage set up with a wooded area that had largely been cleared out. It looked great! Excited to see if they can get an annual festival going.
Any update on the progress here? I'd love to see some pics if they are actively building!
This facility is looking to greatly expand and is seeking the necessary rezoning.
From planning docs:
The PUD proposes a number of recreational and entertainment uses to allow a venue for festivals, concerts, camping, horse trails, outdoor watersports within a constructed lake, and a BMX and motocross track. Tracts 1, 2, and 5 are within the areas designated as Open Space by the comprehensive plan, and are City owned property.
- Tract 1 is largely kept in a natural state and would allow 5k run events in the west 500 feet of the Tract.
- Tract 2 allows primitive camping, general recreation, horse stables, souvenir shops, and a streetcar/train.
- Tract 5 allows campgrounds, general recreation, office, horse stables, concession stands, RV parking, BMX bike and motocross racing, festivals, concerts, souvenir shops, streetcar/train, and parking lot.
- Tract 4 allows only a parking lot use, and is City owned property south of NE 10th Street.
- Tract 3 is property not owned by the City and allows many similar uses to Tracts 2 and 5 and adds wakeboarding/waterslides, two sound stages, eating establishments with alcohol, and limited non-accessory signs associated with stages. PUD-1424 covers a large amount Tract 3 which currently allows wakeboarding and associated water sports.
Is it easy to get communication started with the group behind this project? I have some thoughts or suggestions on how to increase land usage but I don't know where to begin. Thanks Pete!

I had hoped the City would add another damn further down and encourage more growth down the river. At least add some more water in that river. The cross-over section of 35, 40, etc. looks atrocious from above.
Some of these tracts seem like a waste of space. Where will the City develop in 25 years? I think we should encourage more down the river. We know the railroad tracks and Magellin oil segment south of the river aren't going anywhere. Once the Indian Cultural area is developed there's not much land left.
This land is actually owned by the city and leased to the Lost Lake operators.
Perhaps if this takes off another dam would make sense.
I would be supportive of a dam at NE23 as a future MAPS effort
