I thought i'd pass on some info to people that use the area because guess what, it's about to get worse.
So it took the first contractor over a YEAR to complete the intersection of Anderson and 74th and a little section of road that was widened to 4 lanes going north to the 240 junction. Even then, the work was sub-par because the concrete is anything BUT smooth.
Next, a different contractor was selected to do the work on the next section going north, which included the 59th street intersection and widening to 4 lanes between 240 and 59th. That also took over a year to complete and the work was also sub-par for the same reason.
Now, we're in phase 3 (or 4) where Anderson has been closed between I40 and 59th for through traffic for several months. After sending an email to the city, i was given more information on the projects, but i also got some information for the future....bad news.
So the bridge work on Anderson just south of I40 is done. It's been widened to 4 lanes and they're ready to start the work to get the widening between 59th and that bridge going. The bog (not creek) that the bridge goes over was very troublesome and caused difficult with the contractor in keeping the area dry enough to work in. Luckily they were able to do it during a mostly dry part of the year.
Now here's the bad news. The road isn't going to be opened up any time soon, and in fact, the ramps for Anderson are going to be CLOSED!!!!!!!! while the work on the section underneath the bridge to re-grade it and widen it. The final completion date for the entire project up to 44th is October. The ramps and the portion under I-40 should be completed this summer and we'll only be dealing with the last section between I-40 to 44th.
My complaint was really around the fact that we've had to deal with this stuff for 3 years and that it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect a project like this to be completed more quickly and to NOT require the closing of Anderson. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to drive 3 miles in either direction to get to the next exit (douglas blvd or choctaw rd). There really isn't anything to do about it but the city obviously wasn't thinking of its citizens very much in this project.
I dont drive this area during rush hour, only on nights and weekends on trips to/from church. During those times, there is zero traffic. But maybe someone else can comment if rush hour has issues??? I have seen the eastbound reno/anderson stop sign backed up past 1st Christian regularly....so if it's like that, i get it. But 3 years seems just dumb....
