Thread: fye closing at end of January

Default fye closing at end of January

The fye store on NW Expressway is closing at the end of Jan (not sure if it's just that one or all the OKC stores), everything is 30-50% off, except stuff already on sale and used. Bummer 'cos I got some incredible deals on complete seasons of TV shows used on Blu Ray there over the past few years...

FYE has been slowly closing a lot of locations in the US the past few years. Big box stores like Target and Best Buy really hurt FYE with lower DVD prices and the rise of Netflix really did a toll on them as well.

All of the TWE stores seem to be closing. Sign of the times. I miss their Suncoast Motion Picture Company stores in the malls (there are some - but no longer in OKC), Camelot Music, Sam Goody, Incredible Universe (remember those?), and now f.y.e seems to closing up at a quick clip.

I never like to hear about people losing their jobs. The everyday worker in the store dealing with the public. Executives always seem to have a golden parachute and float into another high paying job. Music media is a fast changing shark infested pond to be swimming in.

I'm surprised they have made it this long.

Sam Goody, Camelot, Wherehouse Music, Suncoast, Disc Jockey, etc are all long gone. As much as I miss those stores, they are a remnant of a bygone era.

Today, the CD is all but dead. For movies, Best Buy/Target/Walmart has most newer titles and for vintage stuff you can go to places like Hastings and Vintagestock. There really isn't a need for stores like f.y.e. anymore.

I worked at the SW 74th and Penn location when it was Blockbuster Music, then Wherehouse Music, when I was in high school. Lots of memories at that location going back to when it was Sound Warehouse.

Does this make Hastings in Norman the last of its kind in the metro?

Hastings in Yukon is still open as far as I know.

Vintagestock is still a great source for physical media in addition to Hastings.
