Thread: Christmas light displays in greater OKC/Edmond/Norman area?

  1. #1

Default Christmas light displays in greater OKC/Edmond/Norman area?

Anyone have any info on organized neighborhood Christmas light displays in or around OKC? I don't think anyone does things on the scale that the ol' Ski Island used to back in the day, or even the Mayfield addition in SW OKC about 20 years ago....but thought someone around here might know if any particular neighborhoods or houses have special displays that would merit a visit. Thanks.

I notice a bit of a downturn in the orchestrated/electronically synchronized displays this year as I've looked around, which I suspect were very time intensive and expensive to set up....

There is a house in Edmond in I think (Thornbrooke?) neighborhood that usually has an extensive music/light setup. I think it has been posted here before.

Yes it is Thornbrooke. My fiancé's parents live in that addition and the display is pretty incredible. It is only one house though. I think Nichols Hills is the best place to do light viewing in OKC.

I remember when Ski Island was the best.

I remember that once you got in there, you weren't getting out any time soon. The people that lived there put on a great display, but paid a price for it.

It seems downtown has now become the place where the biggest displays are concentrated.

The lights are Auto Alley are super cool, as are the displays at the Myriad Gardens and Devon Energy Center.

Bricktown canal is pretty elaborate as well, with a huge tree on ballpark plaza.

I missed it last year, but I have every intention of getting downtown this year and taking some great nighttime Christmas pics. Might do it this Friday, actually, since the weather may turn rainy this weekend...there's this one skyline pic of downtown I'd love to get, but the place I'd have to set up I think might get me mugged LOL

It's only one house but this is always a special display in Norman every year.

    Downs Family Christmas

This is from last year and is typical of what they do.

There is a house in Nichols Hills on NW Grand right off of Nichols Rd that is a must see.

The last 2 years this house has been decked out!

Heritage Hills is getting some good ones going. I think a lot of the inner core neighborhoods are off to a slow start because of the ice storm.

This best display to me Markwell Avenue – Located west of Council off NW 23rd Street, this entire block participates in a light show set to music starting the day after Thanksgiving. Turn your radio to 107.1 FM to hear the music. Don’t forget to bring a canned good for their food drive.

19th & Olie - Yes, that one is good and also has parking nearby to watch it. Markwell is good too, I haven't been out to that one in a few years. If you are up that way, There is a house that is decked out pretty well in Homestead (Danforth West of Santa Fe). Our family always enjoys Heritage Hills & Nichols Hills as well but I am interested in seeing if there are any others out there since Chesapeake isn't doing anything this year.
