Wife and I made a road trip to three Oklahoma ghost towns: Meridian, Ingalls, and Fallis. Ingalls was the second stop, and the coolest of the day. The gun battle took place in 1893 between the Doolin/Dalton gang and US Marshals who were pursuing them. In the resulting gunfight, three Marshals lost their lives, and four of the gang lay dead, including Bill Doolin, who was bured in a cemetary in Guthrie. One civilian was killed and two wounded. The escaping gang members were all eventually wiped out, some captured, but most killed. (The two one-hundred-year-old black and white photos are obviously not mine)
