Thread: General thoughts about Cleveland neighborhood

Default General thoughts about Cleveland neighborhood

So a family member of mine is currently looking for homes in the city. Since he knew I lived in midtown he's been asking for my advice, especially since my family is mostly terrified by the city and telling him to move to Choctaw or somewhere. He and his SO have their eyes on a few homes in Cleveland. TBH I really don't know that much about this area.

It seems nice enough. How is the vibe? Is it similar to Gatewood? That was actually their first choice but the homes in Cleveland are more their style. Are there lot of renters? Also my cousin is gay. While I doubt they will have problems, I'm worried they might get "side eye" from their neighbors. Would they be welcomed there?

    Thanks in advance, y'all :-)

I'm not particularly familiar with Cleveland, but I get the sense that no side-eyeing is going to take place in this part of the city (44/235/40 loop).

If I recall, a lot of the Cleveland homes are super nice and of a pretty good size, which makes them less likely for rental.

I have actually driven by the Cleveland neighborhood. I am really impressed by it. When/if I move, I will defnitely look in this neighborhood.

Cleveland is a great neighborhood. The inner north loop is definitely the most gay-friendly area.

Scroll down on this page and there is a map of 'likely homosexual households.' 16th to 39th, Classen to I-44 has a higher concentration of gay families.

he will definitely not be looked at funny in the Cleveland neighborhood. I live in Crestwood so not far from there and have many friends in the Cleveland neighborhood. its a great neighborhood and there are plenty of other Gay families there.

I'm in Crestwood and have several friends in Cleveland. Both are great neighborhoods!! Very open minded and I have several gay and lesbian friends that are homeowners in both neighborhoods.

I've lived in Cleveland for two years, and love it. I have no plans to move as long as I live in OKC. (For context, I could afford to live in a "wealthier" part of town). The neighbors are great. It stays surprisingly quiet, but kids are pretty free to play around in each other's yards and driveways. There are some renters, I'd guess about 10-15% of the 500 homes are rented. Most of the renters are there for the neighborhood elementary school, and tend to stick around for a while. Crime is low for the area, and we have an active neighborhood watch, and an OKCPD Master Sargent lives in there. The "vibe" is similar to Gatewood, but slightly more family oriented due to the school. It's an interesting mix of people, including people living in the houses they grew up in, empty nesters, professionals (I'm a lawyer, across the street is a surgeon), blue collar workers (my next door neighbor lays phone lines), people with families, people that never want kids, and everything in between. I can't imagine being gay would get a "side eye" here. I know several neighbors who are, including someone very involved in our neighborhood association, and it's a non-issue. If your family has any specific questions, I'd be glad to answer them. If you can't tell, I'm a big fan.

Thanks so much for everyone's responses! I knew I could count on the OKC Talk fam

One point of clarification: As a former resident of midtown, I figured most of the inner loop is fairly gay-friendly. However, my cousin's partner is from out of state and not completely familiar with OKC so I figured I ask just in case.

Also, just because inventory in these areas are so ridiculously low, I'm thinking they are going to look in Venice as well. I'm going to be in OKC on Memorial Day so I hope to be able to look with them. Thanks again everyone!

It's funny because I also know a lot of gay homeowners in Cleveland and Crestwood. Don't know many east of Classen. If that's any indication of future land values, buy Cleveland.
