Katrina evacuees distraught over having to leave pets behind

How horrible! In addition to losing their property and their lives as they knew it, these poor people are now being stripped of their pets, as well! While I can understand to a ceratin extent, to some people their pets are like children.

I understand their reasons but man... I can tell you my wife would be devastated if she had to leave our dog behind in a crisis. Our dog is very much a part of our family and it would be extremely hard to just leave her behind. Just another heartbreaking reason this whole thing just sucks.

I just can't believe the insensitivity of the whole thing. These people are hanging by a thread and now their rescuers are taking away what could be their last comfort in this whole mess. This makes me really mad.
