School officials said they anticipate this would be followed by a similar-sized bond for the election in 2017.
School officials said the two-phase plan would fund construction of safe rooms in every school, stadium expansions at all three high schools. The plan would also allow for the purchase of technology, curriculum materials and textbooks, according to Edmond Public Schools representatives.
“Rather than build free standing safe rooms or designated safe rooms that sit idle for many months during the year, our approach encompasses adding classroom space, media centers and gymnasiums that would serve a dual purpose as safe rooms,” said Superintendent David Goin.
Every school in the Edmond district built since 1990 reportedly has multiple safe rooms. School officials said about 8,000 students can be housed in those safe rooms. And the passage of the bond issue in February would allow the district to add enough safe rooms to “adequately protect all 23,552 students during severe weather.”
Administrators said the two-phase plan includes the addition of 90 new classrooms, four media centers, four computer labs, three multi-purpose rooms, three gymnasiums, two band rooms and three high school stadium upgrades.

I am curious, is there going to be a move away from having games at Wantland? Anyone heard if that is the motivation behind the individual stadium upgrades?
I'm all for the new middle school and more class rooms but 16 million to make a high school football stadium nicer.....I'd rather them focus on academics. Our textbooks are around 8-10 years old i'd rather they work on that.
Yes, for a couple of reasons but the biggest being that with the addition of the 4th high school in the works, scheduling, which is already rough, will be impossible with a single shared stadium. UCO has also made some... questionable... policy and scheduling changes over the recent years in regards to the stadium.
Vote Today! (if you're voting yes... :P)
