Thread: Food and Drink Wish List

Default Food and Drink Wish List

It's a slow news day here at OKCTalk. So how about a wish list for new OKC dining and drinking options?

In recent years we've seen an exposion of new concepts, but I feel like there are still some big gaps I'd like to see filled (rather than by yet another burger pub).

    My wish list:

    • A good, non-chain breakfast diner. Something like Norman's Syrup. 23rd street seems like a good fit for this. Extra special bonus points if open late or even 24 hour.
    • A hot wings place/sports bar (non-BWW). Non-traditional, gourmet sauces. I'm feeling Film Row for this but could also see it in a more residential-heavy setting to give it a neighborhood bar feel. So maybe midtown or Deep Deuce.
    • A decent Indian restaurant in the CBD.
    • Korean fusion. My heart has been heavy ever since Foodie's closed.
    • WAFFLE CHAMPION NEEDS TO BE OPEN FOR DINNER!! So many times I've been craving one of their sweeter options and then I remember it is 8PM and I have a sad. Soooo many times.
    • A late night desert/coffee option. The missus and I keep ending up at the Bricktown Starbucks for an after dinner coffee because that is LITERALLY the only option to have such a thing. Cuppies and Joe lost my evening business due to cold coffee and stale cupcakes. They had one job!! (ok actually they had two). Pie Junkie might be able to foot the bill but they aren't ever open late.
    • Kaiser's to change ownership.
    • A late night or 24 hour donut shop. Good coffee too. Put it in Midtown and put Brown's out of business. Or maybe cater more to a bar crowd and have it up on Western in the bar district there.

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

    What you got?

Ramen! Hopefully Kaiteki will outgrow their truck and pull a Waffle Champion/BTT. I know our Asian district is Vietnamese heavy, but how can we have dozens of pho places, but no ramen?

Fully agree we need more breakfast options. I opt for Shartell Cafe as my breakfast of choice, but a 24 hour option would be great.

For a late night coffee/desert option, I'd love for All About Cha to open a third location closer to downtown, or for District House to step up the desert portion of their menu.

Plaza District needs something like Voodoo donuts in Portland.

Cheever's needs to bring back the New York strip with the sweet potato waffle. That was the best steak I've ever had in Oklahoma, include Red, and they yanked it off the menu.

In speaking with the operator of Kaiteki while on one of my many visits, he does say a bricks and mortar location is the ultimate goal. Something like Momofuku noodle bar (NYC) would be awesome in midtown/plaza/western.

The problem is that in a very small part of the urban core you have all these breakfast places: Shartel Cafe, Classen Grill, Jimmy's Egg, Jeff's Country Kitchen, Abraham's Western Cafe. Even an IHOP right there. We need breakfast in more districts!!

On a related note I'd be down with more Beverly's locations throughout the metro.

Kitchen No. 324 has been a huge entry in the urban breakfast market. And now, Park House offers weekend brunch and of course Nebu is an amazing breakfast option during the week. S&B is opening a breakfast/lunch place at 916 NW 6th. District House serves breakfast (and late coffee and dessert) in the Plaza. The breakfast situation has improved dramatically in just the last year or so.

Daebek K will fill the Korean fusion void.

I bet our 24-hour diner wishes will be eventually filled at the old bus station.

Tokyo serves ramen during the colder months or at least did last winter.

This would rock! .... Speaking of the station... Did the automated convenience store in the station close when Greyhoud moved?

As far as food wishlist..... My answer is pretty obvious... BBQ worth standing in line for.

Late night [southeast] Asian dining options (a la East Side King in Austin,) would be delightful.

I'll check it out, but I'd be willing to bet they get the same kind of meat the rest of the gyro/kebab places in the city get.

    There are two types

    Right:

Ahhh... You are looking for good doner kebabs.... I agree they are hard to find and you won't find those kind of Turkish kebabs at Kebab n Curry which is Indian/Pakistani.

You might check Ole Gyro out for the chicken schwarma.... Pretty sure their beef/lamb kebab meat is the same as everyone else in town though.
