According to the 1949 Sanborn Maps, the four-story structure was originally
occupied by the Regional Offices of the Veteran’s Administration. Later, the
building became the automobile show room for a Pontiac dealership; joining the
family of car dealerships and auto repair businesses along what is now known as
the Automobile Alley Historic District. Historic photographs show the building in
1949 and 1959 returned to offices, including a US Army recruitment station.
During that period, it appears the transoms over the original storefront were
infilled with an opaque material and some of the overhead doors on the street
level replaced with brick infill or storefront.
