Work to resurface the downtown stretch of Broadway is slated to begin Monday, September 9th at 7:00 pm. Work will continue throughout the evening until the project is completed.

This project consists of installing fiber optic cable and replacing the traffic signal cabinets and controllers and associated signal equipment at 22 intersections from Santa Fe Avenue, east to Saints Boulevard in order to bring them into compliance with the National Transportation Communication for Intelligent Transportation System Protocol (NTCIP) standards. The project will also include installation of wireless radios at four of the city water towers. These intersections will connect to the Traffic Management Center via fiber optics and wireless communication network.
The estimated construction cost is $2,700,000. The funding split will be 80% Federal funds and 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is in the fall of 2013''

''Kelly, north of Covell to south of Coffee Creek
The Kelly Avenue parkway road construction project will begin Wednesday, July 17, 2013. The Kelly Avenue widening will start approximately 1000 feet north of Covell and will continue north to a point 350 feet south of Coffee Creek. The street will be widened to provide a four-lane divided roadway with left turns at all public streets. There will be a new traffic signal light at Kelly and Prairie Village Drive which will also serve as an additional access point into Mitch Park, Mathis Skate Park, and Cheyenne Middle School. The project also includes street lighting and landscaping. There will be 5 foot wide sidewalks on both sides of Kelly.
The first phase of the project is to construct a new bridge just south of Coffee Creek adjacent to the Coffee Creek Golf Course. This will require the closing of Kelly Avenue to through traffic. Local traffic will have access to Hunters Pointe, Hunters Creek, Prairie Village and Coffee Creek Additions from the south end of the project via Covell, while the Villas at Hunters Creek Addition and the Coffee Creek Golf Course will have access from the north end of the project via Coffee Creek. It is anticipated that phase one will require 125 days to complete at which time the road will re-open to through traffic while work on the rest of Kelly will proceed. Formal detour route signs will be posted.
The Oklahoma Department on Transportation (ODOT) awarded the project to Duit Construction Company of Edmond in the amount of $5,934,304. Project funding is 80% federal funds and 20% city funds. ODOT will administer and inspect the project. Edmond will have personnel available on the job site as necessary. The total project duration is 250 calendar days.
Periodic lane closures may be necessary for some of the construction activity. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution and obey traffic signs and flagmen while traveling through the work zone as workers and equipment will be present''

2014 Construction Projects
33rd and Broadway
This project will provide for dual southbound and westbound left turn lanes, a single eastbound, westbound and southbound right turn lane. The entire intersection will be reconstructed in concrete pavement. Signal light modifications will accommodate the changes in lane configurations.
This project is part of the 2000 Sales Tax Improvements. The estimated construction cost is $4,936,296.62. The funding split is 60% Federal funds and 40% City funds. The anticipated start date is summer/fall of 2014.
2014 School Zone Safety Improvements
This project will include school zone safety devices at locations not yet determined.
This project will be funded with 100% City funds estimated to be $60,000.00. The anticipated start date is summer of 2014.
"Share the Road" signage project
This project will install traffic signs to warn motorists to watch for bicycles in the roadway.
The signs will be posted on Boulevard from Clegern to the south City limits and on I-35 Frontage Roads from 2nd St to the south City limits. The project will be funded with 100% federal funds in the estimated amount of $86,700. The anticipated start date is summer/fall of 2014.

Future Construction Projects
The following projects are under constant review and may be moved up or down in the scheduling depending on availability of funding and local priorities.
Danforth Widening, Thomas to Fretz & Thomas Widening, Danforth to Covell
This project will widen Danforth to a five lane roadway with a left turn lane into Edmond North High School and widen Thomas to a three lane roadway with turn lanes into both the North High School as well as John Ross Elementary. The project includes a signal light at Danforth and Thomas.
The City will apply for 80% Federal funds with 20% City funds. Estimated construction cost is $4,890,628.85. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Covell Widening, Fairfax to I-35 Southbound on/off ramps
This project will widen Covell to a four-lane divided roadway. There will be a section of widening east of Sooner six lanes wide to accommodate future commercial development. There will be left and right turn lanes at major commercial driveways. The project includes street lighting and a signal at Sooner and Covell.
Estimated construction cost is $10,455,267.77. The City will apply for 80% Federal funds with 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
15th and Broadway
This project will evaluate the existing lane capacity to determine where additional lanes are needed. Signal light modifications will accommodate any changes in the lane configurations. This project is part of the 2000 Sales Tax Improvements.
The estimated construction cost is $495,939.00. The funding split is 72% Federal funds and 28% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
33rd Street, Coltrane to I-35
This project consists of widening 33rd Street to provide for a four lane divided roadway with left turn lanes at the side streets. The center median will be landscaped. The project will also include multi-use paths/sidewalks.
This project is part of the 2000 Sales Tax Improvements. The estimated construction cost is $3,911,046.26. The funding split will be 80% Federal funds and 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Danforth and Kelly
This project will widen the intersection to a four lane divided road with dual left turn lanes and separate right turn lanes. The project extents will be approx 1400 feet east, west and south and 500 feet to the north.
The estimated cost is $4,613,253.79. The City will apply for 80% Federal funds with 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Covell, Santa Fe to West City Limits
This project will widen Covell to provide for a four lane divided roadway. There will be left turn lanes at all side streets. Covell will also include street lighting, bike paths and landscaping. Several new bridge structures will be required at the Santa Fe intersection.
The estimated construction cost is $5,500,000. The City will apply for 80% Federal funds with 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Kelly, Coffee Creek to Waterloo
This project will widen Kelly to a four lane divided roadway with left turn lanes at all side streets. The mile section from Sorghum Mill to Waterloo will not be divided. A signal light will be constructed at the intersections of Coffee Creek, Mesa Trail (Cross Timbers Elementary School), and Sorghum Mill Road. The project will also include street lighting and landscaping from Coffee Creek to Sorghum Mill.
The estimated construction cost is $7,000,000.00. The City will apply for 80% Federal funds with 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Sooner Road Bridge Replacement, 0.6 Miles North of Covell Road
This project will replace the existing bridge with a four lane bridge with sidewalks on both sides of the bridge and a trail underpass on both ends alongside Coffee Creek to accommodate the trails system.
The estimated construction cost is $2,158,434.38. The City will apply for 80% Federal funds with 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
2nd and Bryant
This project consists of adding dual left turn lanes for all four directions as well as a single right turn lane for all four directions. New signal lights will be included. This project is part of the 2000 Sales Tax Improvements.
The estimated construction cost is $3,811,731.86. The funding split and anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
33rd and Technology Dr.
This project will add left and right turn lanes on 33rd Street as well as a new signal light.
The estimated construction cost is $2,250,000.00. The City will apply for 80% Federal funds with 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown at this time.
Phase 2, Intelligent Transportation System Broadway, Danforth, Covell, Santa Fe Corridor Project
This project consists of installing fiber optic cable and replacing the traffic signal cabinets and controllers and associated signal equipment at 26 intersections on Broadway - 9th to Comfort, Danforth – Boulevard to Sherry, Santa Fe – Covell to Danforth and Covell – Broadway to Marilyn Williams in order to bring them into compliance with the National Transportation Communication for Intelligent Transportation System Protocol (NTCIP) standards. These intersections will connect to the Traffic Management Center via fiber optics and wireless communication network.
The estimated construction cost is $2,947,625. The City will apply for 80% Federal funds with 20% City funds. The anticipated start date is unknown.
Covell, Broadway to Fairfax
This project will widen Covell to provide for a four lane divided roadway where possible. There will be left turn lanes at all side streets where possible. Covell may also include street lighting, 10 foot wide multi-use paths/sidewalks, and landscaping.
The project is currently under design however, no construction funding is identified at this time. The estimated construction cost is unknown at this time.

I really wish Edmond would tackle more than one road project at a time. When I say road project, I mean a REAL one. It would be nice to see them just widen the entire stretch of Covell and get it done with. They don't need to do every listed project at once, but it would be awesome if they would do about 3-4 at a time.

Construction of Edmond’s first designated bicycle lanes is almost finished along University Drive between Second Street and Chowning Avenue.
Work on the striping and placement of the signage was being completed this week.

Work to resurface a one mile section of Bryant Avenue is slated to begin Monday, September 16th. The project is expected to take a maximum of seven working days to complete.
The area of Bryant Avenue to be resurfaced is from Danforth Road to Covell Road. The road will remain open during this time, but motorists should expect intermittent lane closures.
This resurfacing is part of the scheduled 2013 Mill & Overlay projects for the City of Edmond. Atlas Paving is the contractor for the project"

As far as everything goes in post #7, if Edmond is going to be the first real metro suburb to go bicycle friendly, I'd advise them to go ahead and make these new streets wide enough to accommodate a painted lane for bicycle traffic. Those "Three Feet, It's the Law" signs don't do crap for cyclists...

While PluPan created this thread for actual planned or currently under construction road construction, I figured this would be a good spot to put this without creating a new thread. My thought is, how can we ease traffic at 33rd & Broadway? I'm not the best artist, so I visualize using MS Pain-t. Anybody think Edmond would ever consider doing a Single Point subUrban Interchange? I think this location would be perfect for such an item.
Note the single white non passing line for thru cars. Not enough room to show on my rendering, but a 500 ft. additional right turn lane could be added for both northbound and southbound traffic and the center lane can be a turn either way or go straight lane, kinda like Meridian northbound at NW Expressway. Anyway, this is the most horrendous intersection in Edmond at anytime of the day, albeit overnight hours. The center median landscaping would stay as is north of where Broadway straightens out to a compass north/south alignment.
I will post a rendering of a sort later of how I think this intersection should be. In the meantime; here is an update from the word of Danforth railroad crossing:
Danforth Railroad Crossing Remains Closed
Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad Company is continuing work on the replacement of the Danforth railroad crossing through Wednesday. Original estimates were that the work would last through Tuesday.
Once replacement has been completed, City of Edmond crews will move in to do asphalt work that will complete the crossing repairs

You won't believe it, there is a delay in the bridge opening. I know I now, shocker lol
But yeah, I believe they are now shooting for a January opening date.
They're shootin' for tomorrow cuz today's already shot.
So be it.
They're getting closer, shot this today when I drove by. I bet the residents of Hunters Creek are dying for them to get Kelly open.
