Linda Ronstadt Discloses Her Battle With Parkinson?s Disease ? AARP
Definitely in my playlists as an early/mid teen, along with Joan Baez and Carly Simon, June Carter cash, Barbara Mandrell and of course Ms. Loretta. I occasionally listened to rock and T40 as well, but only occasionally. The ladies, Willie, Waylon and Johnny pretty much had my nights covered.
I saw Linda in Santa Fe about 25 years ago. She was with George
Lucas. When she stepped into Dunlap's department store I tried to
ask her where the bathroom was. She looked great.
That's horrible news...
In addition to being extremely attractive she had a wonderful voice.
I was a big Linda Ronstadt fan . . . Had several of her albums.
Got to see her live at Tulagi when this record was new.
She spent about half the concert complaining about smokers in the audience.
Tobacco smokers.
Her later cover versions of old standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra were just as good as her "country rock" stuff.
Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Parkinson's and was still able to tour for awhile singing his classics. Hopefully Linda will be able to do the same in the future.
80% of those in the music industry these days cannot sing. Thanks to computers and software like Autotune. A cat in a blender can sound like Frank Sinatra.
Mili Vanilli were hooked, cleaned and deep fried for doing what the majority of the music industry does today. From what I understand the majority of artists lip syncs their concerts. If only Milli Vanilli had wated a few years they could have been billionaires with closets full of grammy's.
"Bathroom monitor", indeed.
This is how I remember her live at Tulagi near the beginning of her career . . .
(as i said . . . i was a big fan)
(Tulagi wasn't much bigger than The Blue Door. It was a GREAT evening.
Not counting all the whining about the cigarette smokers in the audience.)
Wow. It just now occurred to me that I may have married my first wife on account of
she bore a passing resemblance to Linda Ronstadt. sumbitch. just now realized that.
She had the voice of an angel and was hotter than summer asphalt. It sucks that this disease is taking her down.
LOL! I'm not sure about your percentage but as far as Autotune,
which I'm not familiar with, I know that there is software that can
manipulate the intonation of instruments and vocalists. It's a
MIDI thing. Personally I don't like it.
BUT, please notice that it's a big but, the object of the studio is
to make $$$. Period. No $$$ equates to no studio recording talentless
wannabe's. $$$ are a very important part of the economy.
I'm a professional musician/arranger and have spent countless
hours, over 40 years worth, in the studio. I know, without a doubt,
that music can be altered. Hey, it's cheaper to change a wrong
note than to keep the musician for another take. That's why they
hire the best of the best. We show up. We play the part. We go
home and wait for the check. Repeat.
