Thread: How Safe Were the Storm Shelters?

Default How Safe Were the Storm Shelters?

Surely from the great destruction of the previous two Moore tornadoes, storm shelters were included in many cases in the reconstruction. So it will be interesting to see how the various storm shelters weathered the tornado, especially where it was a EF4 or EF5. For instance, did uncertified safe rooms make it okay? Such knowledge will surely be of help in deciding what type storm shelter to use when rebuilding.

It will be interesting to see which ones held up better than others.
Following the May 3 1999 Moore tornado Texas Tech researchers conducted an extensive study on the damage and came up with some pretty good thoughts and ideas. There are many more shelters now so I hope there is another similar research study that we can learn from.
