Thread: Supposed haunted schoolhouse. Sooner road

Default Supposed haunted schoolhouse. Sooner road

Probably an urban legend but does anyone remember a small abandoned white schoolhouse on South Sooner Rd near Moore that was rumored to be haunted back in the 60's and 70's? It was near a corner intersection and I took friends out there a few times because I always heard stories about it being haunted by school children that died in the building because of a gas leak back in the 30's or 40's (if true). I remember it set up on a foundation that allowed it to be moved and it had a set of steps that led up to the front door. It actually was an old schoolhouse. There was a sign that said "est in 19xx" don't remember the year. later it had a sign that said something about it being used as a sewing club. I never saw anyone there. It just set in a field off the road and looked really spooky at night. Does anyone else remember it and remember what the story was about it, and if there was any truth to the deaths and the gas leak?

Not ringing any bells. There was (is?) an old white school house (or old church?) off W. Franklin and S. Eastern, but nothing leaps to mind off S. Sooner

I believe it is located on the corner of sooner and 19th in Moore. It was remodeled a few yrs ago, but I dont know any stories of it being haunted.

The old school is still there, off of Sooner Road. They've fixed it up, and it now faces north, where it used to face east, with the entrance facing Sooner Road. They've also moved it back a bit, but it is restored and resting on the same lot. From what I understand it was the school for a community called Clothier, and I believe the sign on the school says 1902, but I may be wrong on that. I'm not sure who owns it or how you tour it, but I'm glad it's been restored!
