Default OU set to play for BIG 12 Baseball championship Sunday in OKC

OU will play MU at 1 pm for the B12 Championship in Bricktown.

If you’re an OU fan please know that this OU baseball team has fought its guts out all season long for the OU brand and the team deserves our support. The games have been a lot of fun.
There should be plenty of cheap tickets.

    Wish I could go.

Sooners are definitely playing much better as the season is drawing to a close.

I saw them play very early this year at Pepperdine.

The listed attendance for today’s game was: 5071.

That’s not too bad considering the 9AM starting time and that OU softball was playing at a conflicting time.
OU softball is off Sunday + the 1PM starting time and the fact that it’s the championship game =
there should be a pretty decent crowd. The weather looks very good, but it may be a tad hot in the sun.

It was a great deal of fun today in spite of the loss. The game went down to the last batter.
We will find out the seeding’s at 11 am tomorrow.
The only good thing about the OU loss today is that it probably means that the Texas baseball season is over with.

I thought we might have had a bigger crowd today… but it was an active and fun 6343 with the games drama.

OU played at the same location 2 years ago in a super-regional and advanced to the CWS.
There were a decent number of east coast OU fans who attended the games. The OU ticket office will have tickets for sale tomorrow.

I have never been to Charlottesville VA but I am told that it’s a very nice place..
It just depends on what OU team shows up, but this is a winnable regional for OU.

NORMAN, Okla. -- The NCAA Tournament 64-team field was announced on Monday and the No. 25 University of Oklahoma baseball team will make its 35th postseason appearance in Charlottesville, Va.
The Sooners (38-22), seeded second, will play Friday at 8 p.m. ET against No. 3 seed Appalachian State (39-16), who won the Southern Conference regular season crown but earned at-large bid after losing in their conference tourney last Friday. No. 1 seed Virginia (38-17-1) will host Army (41-13) in the other first round game at Davenport Field at 4 p.m.

"First of all, I am extremely excited for this group of young men that have been challenged and gone through an awful lot of adversity to be rewarded with a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway, who will be the head coach of a Division I team in the NCAA Tournament for the 13th time.

Oklahoma is familiar with Davenport Field as it advanced to the program's 10th appearance in the College World Series by defeating then-No. 1 Virginia in the NCAA Charlottesville Super Regional in 2010. While the Sooners are 2-2 all-time against the Cavaliers, they have not played against Army or Appalachian State.

"Our only familiarity with our first game opponent is the fact that they played Samford as a common opponent and we both defeated them in two out of three games," said Golloway. "However, Samford went on to win the conference tournament. If Samford is indicative of the strength of that league, we will have our hands full."

Each of the four-team, double-elimination regionals will be played June 1-3. The winners of each regional will advance to the Super Regional round June 8-10.

The Charlottesville Regional is matched up with the Columbia Regional, featuring No. 1 South Carolina (No. 8 national seed), No. 2 Coastal Carolina, No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Manhattan. The sites of the next round will be announced on June 4 on NCAA.com.

"We recognize the challenges that lie ahead having experienced a Super Regional in 2010 in Charlottesville," said Golloway. "We also recognize that as a No. 1 seed, Virginia has advanced to the College World Series in two out of the last three years. We fell that the regional field will be tough, not just Virginia, and that we must play our best baseball to advance."

Oklahoma has won 20 out of the last 28 games and finished the season strong to make the program's fifth consecutive NCAA appearance. The Sooners went 3-1 last week in the Big 12 Championship and fell in the title game 8-7 to Missouri.

"I am extremely proud of everyone involved with our program, based on the fact that after week six and close to the halfway point of the season, we sat with an RPI around 129 and were on the outside looking in," added Golloway. "For us to finish with an RPI in the 20's, speaks volumes for the character, fight and toughness of our program.

"Although we are obviously disappointed of falling just short of a big 12 championship this past weekend, we realize our main focus and goal from day one is to get to Omaha. And that journey will begin Friday."

While Missouri won the conference's automatic bid, the Big 12 will also be represented by Baylor and Texas A&M. Both the Bears and Aggies will host NCAA Regionals this week.

The eight winners of the Super Regionals will play in the College World Series, beginning June 15 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, Neb.

Due to pending weather the OU baseball game has been moved to 1 PM central time.

    http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m...060112aad.html
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- No. 23 Oklahoma (38-22) opens play in the 2012 NCAA Charlottesville Regional today against No. 3 seed Appalachian State (39-16) at 1 p.m. CT at Davenport Field. The game will follow the first contest in the regional between host and No. 1 seed Virginia and No. 4 seed Army (10 a.m.).
    1. NCAA Experience ... Advantage Sooners
The Sooners expect to qualify for the postseason every year and they are making their 35th NCAA appearance (fifth straight) with a 75-67 overall in those tournaments. OU is 23-11 in the opening game of its 34 regional appearances, winning four of the last six. Meanwhile, Appalachian State is making the program's fourth NCAA Championship appearance and first since going 0-2 in the Stillwater Regional in 1986. The Mountaineers are 2-6 in the tournament after qualifying in 1984 and 1974.

OU is also familiar with this weekend's surroundings, having won two out of three games in the 2010 Charlottesville Super Regional over then-No. 1 Virginia.

    2. Ride the Power Arms
It's no secret that the pitching staff has been the strength and most consistent weapon in the Sooners' arsenal this season, especially down the stretch. Look for the power arms of Jordan John, who gets the start today, and company to continue the late-season run. John has lasted at least seven innings in all but one start this year and Steven Okert, who is 2-1 with two saves in his last five outings, is waiting in the bullpen.
    3. Finding Ways to Win
At 38-22, the Sooners have won 20 of the last 28 games and have done so with a couple of different heroes down the stretch. In game one of the Big 12 Championship, Garrett Carey hit his first home run of the season to propel OU to a 1-0 walk-off win over rival Oklahoma State. Two days later, Matt Oberste belted two bombs as the Sooners sent the then-No. 3 Baylor Bears packing. While Max White has led the offense throughout the season, look for other veterans like Caleb Bushyhead and Cody Reine to showcase their postseason experience this weekend.

    4. Follow the Action
Today's game will be heard on the Sooner Sports Network (KREF 1400 AM) with Toby Rowland and Ross Hubbard on the call. Live audio can also be found on SoonerSports.com. There is no television or live webcasts provided this weekend, but fans can follow live stats on SoonerSports.com or updates on Twitter (@OU_Baseball).

    5. The Weather in Charlottesville
Inclement weather forecasted in Virginia has already changed the schedule once, moving OU's 7 p.m. game up to 1 p.m. today. The forecast is calling for a 70 percent chance of rain, so keep an eye on SoonerSports.com for updates along with the official twitter feeds (@SoonerSportscom and @OU_Baseball).

It was a very gutty performance to make it all the way back though the loser’s bracket to win the regional.

OU will be playing at South Carolina in the best of 3 for the right to go to the College World Series in Omaha. Time and date is still pending.

When they are on…. OU’s top 3 pitchers are as good as any other teams top 3 in the nation. Hopefully the OU bats can be timely.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are 2 time defending national champions.
