Thread: OKC on the list of cities with fewest underwater homeowners

  1. Default OKC on the list of cities with fewest underwater homeowners

    From MSNBC

    "8. Oklahoma City, Okla.
    Percentage of homes underwater: 5.71
12-Month home price change: +0.83 percent
    Unemployment: 5 percent
Homes built since 2000: 15.8 percent
Oklahoma City was rated by Forbes as the fourth best city to buy a home, citing the region’s good conditions for employment. Among the 372 Metropolitan Statistical Areas in the U.S., Oklahoma City has the 11th lowest unemployment rate, at just 5 percent. According to NewsOK, despite the relatively good condition of the local housing market, regional officials are still thankful for the changes to the Affordable Refinance Program."

That's not a big surprise given that OKC hasn't experienced the boom and bust cycle so evident in other parts of the country.

Interesting that many folks' property taxes went down this year in Oklahoma County (as did their home value).

Mine went up about twenty bucks, despite a $900 (trivial, really) decrease in assessed value; the tax rate in my particular district rose by three mills. (The Cap Gap ceased to exist, for me anyway, last year.)
