National Lampoon Magazine

This was published from 1970 through the late 90's and was the launching pad for lots of movies (Animal House, Vaction, etc.)

My dad worked for a publishing company so we got it every month and I always loved the sharp, dry humor -- at least for the most part. It was in it's hay-day when I was in high school and college.

Also, I just bought on DVD-ROM the entire magazine library (super cheap on eBay) and it's funny leafing through the issues.

Looking back through the old issues, you realize there was nowhere near the same political correctness in the 70's and 80's.

Read plenty of both Lampoon and Mad Magazine back in the day. The dog cover was most memorable lol.

I was a HUGE fan of National Lampoon and I'm pretty sure I bought every single issue. (Wish I knew what happened to them . . .)

I even bought a copy of their Sunday Newspaper Parody (I think it was The Dacron Republican-Democrat). Hilarious stuff. (I still have that one.)

Remember those "futuristic" illustrations by Bruce McCall(?)? The Bulgemobile . . . Wing Dining . . . The Tyrannnic . . .?

Plus, the guys behind the Lampoon were at least in part responsible for one of the funniest movies of all time: Animal House. (About a block from where I went to Elementary School was a frat house on which the movie could have been based.)

Including the Classic Non-PC Cut--as sung by "Joan Baez" about a certain segment of the population "pulling the triggers" . . .
Only Dave Chappell, Eddie Murphey, Bernie Mac, Chris Rock, Richard Pryor and/or Bill Cosby are "politically correct" to actually say the title in today's world. Oh. And any of the other comedians on BET.)

Looking through all the old issues you realize a huge percentage of what they published is so non-PC it could never be printed today.

I remember one cover with a "female" Soviet athlete. "She" had several Olympic gold medals around "her" neck. The point of the photo was kind of subtle; first you noticed "headlights on high beam" through "her" sweater, then there was a very prominent crotch bulge in "her" sweatpants.
