Thread: Pat Murphy Park

    Default Pat Murphy Park

Does anyone know if the playground equipment that was removed months ago will be replaced?

It will be replaced late into the summer or early fall. In the interim, you might want to check out the playground at either of these locations:

Stars N Stripes Park, 3701 S Lake Hefner Drive
Lions Children's Park, located on the east side of Lake Hefner, on the lake road just south of the East Wharf area. Take the Britton Road exit and turn south. Continue until the road comes to a dead end. Turn right and continue out towards the playground area.

Thanks for the update FritterGirl. We have always loved that little park. Our kids are grown now, but they played on that old equipment lots when they were little. I know the close by neighborhood children miss it right now. Lots of activity around that area right now with the water treatment plant upgrade.

FritterGirl, does anyone else find it strange that the address for Stars N Stripes is on "S" Lake Hefner Drive? It just seems unusual and confusing that any address that far north is considered south.

I don't find it confusing at all, S. Lake Hefner drive is on the S. side of Lake Hefner. As far as I know, there's not a Hefner Lake on the S. side of OKC.

It's not really important but I guess that depends on how you read it. It may not be totally unique but basically any other street in OKC that starts out with South is on the South side of the city and I suspect that if someone from outside of our area was reading the address that is what they would think.

I would guess an exception would be made for streets that meet themselves at the ends.

I guess so. Then some locations around the lake might be known as NNE Lake Hefner Drive or SSW Lake Hefner Drive. LOL
It just seems like a better, less confusing way to do it would be to say something like "3701 Lake Hefner Drive South".

The same holds true at Overholser, where there are North, East and South streets alongside the lake. (Along the west, it's an extension of Morgan Road.)

And just try to keep track of all the Grand Blvd. sections.
