Thread: KFOR adds juvenile arcade noises

Default KFOR adds juvenile arcade noises

For about a year now, KOCO --- 5, has had these adolescent video arcade noises inserted between their stories. You know. Noises like swish, boom, zing. They presume that you are ill focused and somewhat of a moron. Are you? Do you really need to be entertained with pac man noises to be a well informed citizen? Are you as dumb as they think you are?

Well, about two weeks ago KFOR -- 4 -- has started to assume the same stupid things about YOUR attention span. They too have added the childish video arcade noises to all their field stories.

Don't be manipulated by their presumption about you're intelligence and focus. This is yet another reason to get your news from newspapers or newspaper coverage online.

I'm more concerned about Bob Moore Chopper 4

  3. Default Re: KFOR adds juvenile arcade noises

I'm so used to those noises that I had forgotten about them. Now I'll watch all my newscasts with my ears alerted. Let's just be thankful that they don't try those word-balloon graphics used in the original Batman series, like "ZAP!", "ZOWIE", and "POW!"

And ah yes, the Bob Moore Chopper 4. Does that mark the first time we've had a "branded" helicopter on local news? It's getting to be like the FOX halftime report, with Terry, Howie, and the gang, where the current sponsors name is splattered all over the set.

The next step would be to sell advertising on the anchor's clothing, like a race car driver!

And I'm more concerned about KOCO and their blue bar logos on their newscasts. Are they getting ready to go Hi Def too?!

It's not a "brand." It's a sponsor. And, yes. It is the first time a corporation has sponsored a news helicopter in this market.

Coming next... "1-800-2sellhomes Sky five." Totally idiotic. And to think my wife bought her car from Bob Moore. Had we known they were going to stoop to stupidity in advertising, we would have gone elsewhere.

I really don't want to see Paul Folger's awkward stubble in high definition. Schambach would be nice to see though.

All stations that are owned by local tv LLC and lease Choppers had to find sponsors or lose them all together.

The company has tried a few times to take the chopper away. It was the only way to keep it..

Ive said too much. Good day!

My guess is that it's the same helicopter they had, they just sent it in for a paint job... so it probably isn't all that "new."

Few people watch local TV news anymore, so they're just going as far out into Idiocracy land as they can to keep the zombies eyeballs on them.

My brother and SIL don't watch local news or read the DOK. I don't see how they intentionally go through life without being informed of what is going on in their own city. Local news is bad anywhere you go. There is way to much special interest and health reporting where I prefer simple news. They didn't know the Christmas blizzard was coming and while it was going on they only briefly watched the coverage to see how bad it was - otherwise, they are clueless about what goes on locally.

Why would you want to intentionally remain ignorant?

Really? Few people watch local news anymore? Wow, I had no idea. I mean, the Big Three here in OKC have more viewers than ever before according to the ratings. Maybe YOU choose not to watch and you want to justify that by claiming no one else watches, either.

Well if the thing we're worried about is the sounds on their graphics, then we really have misplaced our concerns. I'd rather complain about the abhorent quality of reporting on all the stations....media in general. The sensationalism that gets rewarded in that industry is insane. And the moron masses buy into it. Too bad so many people are stupid.

The thing that blows my mind is the number of people that complain about local news. You do know it's free, right? You're not paying a dime for it. I mean, if I gave you a steak would you feel the need to tell me how it tastes?

Actually, yes, I would feel the need to tell you how it tasted, if you'd been running promos all the time telling me how great your steak was, that your steak was THE BEST in the state. If you'd been telling me how important your steak was in my life, then yeah, I'd probably voice my opinion on your steak, especially if I thought the changes you could make to the recipe would give me a better steak.

Or if you constantly promise me steak but serve me meatloaf, chances are I'm gonna get mad about that too! I mean, c'mon, I showed up for my free steak! ;-)

I better shut up now, I'm making myself hungry. ;-)

And speaking of sound effects, I thought I could hear a low, male voice each time Amy McRee appeared on camera, saying "OMG she's gorgeous", but then I figured out it was just me! Sorry, my bad! ;-)

To me, this is a lot like voting in elections...if you don't vote, you lose the right to complain about the results. Right now, our local news sources are struggling because viewership is being siphoned off by the internet. It takes money to devote specific reporters to doing investigative journalism. That money comes from having viewers. So, if we're not subscribing to the local paper or watching the local newscasts, then we're a big part of the problem.

I'm confused. Is local news viewership UP or DOWN? A few sweeps ago they were all complaining about something like a 20% drop, so has the trend reversed?

IMO, the problem isn't necessarily doing a big investigative journalism project. The problem is reporting 5 minutes of news, then going for the schlock health news, reporting what happened on Survivor as though it were news or entertainment news. I'd rather they reported more national and world news with a little more intelligence - that wouldn't cost them a penny more since its all right off the wires.

I don't know, but I sent them an email this morning about why the past few episodes of "Law and Order" were not in letterbox widescreen format...and remembered after I'd sent the email that I had been watching DVRed episodes from a few weeks ago , but I'm pretty sure that it's still turned off, LOL!

    !
Or if they try cheesy Batman-esque sayings from the 60s TV show as a segue to flow from one story to the next:

"...he will be sentenced to 10 years hard-labor for his crime...and now back to you, Mike."

"Holy gee-williker wombat whisker wonkers, Linda....thats a lotta jail time he's gonna be doing,..now lets check in with the weather"
