Henry was selected out of 53 people who were considered for the job, university spokeswoman Leslie Berger said. Henry will take his new position on July 1.
The return to OCU will be a homecoming for Henry, who served as dean of the OCU law school from 1991 to 1994.
Henry left the law school to join the appellate court in 1994, after being nominated to the position by former President Bill Clinton. He became chief judge in 2008.
