In my area, you can't turn on the tube without live coverage of the funeral for Senator Kennedy. They are in the process of bringing him in to be buried at Arlington Cemetary via Andrews Airforce Base.
I watched a bit, last night. It was a good old fashioned Irish Wake, complete with singing. Oddest, but nicest, big funeral I think I've ever observed (my grandfather's was my personal favorite but I concede that is because I loved him so and hearing the kind things said about him gave comfort).
I was astonished to see that instead of people standing on the side of the road, hand over their heart or hat across their chest in silent respect, that people in the hearse motorcade were hanging out the windows waving and the people on the street watching were cheering and waving back. Strange, but nice, for an elder stateman whose death, at 77 is less a tragedy than just another stage of life.
