.oO(I did not know that)Oo.
will be remembered on the tonight show as carson's sidekick, with his trademark.."yeehhhhesssssssss"
Only one left from that classic Tonight Show triad is Doc Severinsen (sp). He's now just shy of 82 years old.
I had the good fortune to see a live taping of Carson in 1981, and it was a treat. The particular show we saw was nothing particularly special, but it was really fun to see that show in person, to see the sets and how the production was put together. It was surprising to see how small the sets looked in person compared to how you perceive them on TV.
Jimmy Stewart was one of the guests on the show we saw, and that was a fun interview. We got to the NBC studios in Burbank at something like 7AM to get in line, and literally waited all day to get into the 6pm taping. We paid the few extra bucks to take the NBC Studio Tour where you could see all manner of sets from various TV shows in various stages of (dis)assembly.
While waiting in line, we were asked questions for Family Feud surveys and got to know the people in line, which was fun. The annoying part was to see a line of tour buses roll in at 5pm, who all apparently got some sort of preferential seating as part of an organized group...made you fear you wouldn't get in, but we did.
Great fun. We'll miss ya, Ed.
How dead is he?
The first time I went to NYC in 1988 I took the NBC tour and they still had the old Tonight Show set on the tour. They asked for volunteers to play Johnnie and Ed and I got to be Ed and sit in his old chair and "laugh" at Johnnie's jokes. It was something I recalled when I heard the news the day he died.
