In addition to O'Connell's you also have:

-Cafe Plaid opening its expansion and takeout counter
-In The Raw sushi opening in late September
-Pita Pit expanding on Boyd
-some kind of deli/cafe opening by Blush on Buchanan
-three new clothing/accessories boutiques on the east side of Asp
-a new salon on Buchanan next to Justin's, the new bar/restaurant in the Bayou spot

Very few vacancies left on the Corner...

At first, I was sad at the thought of losing the OC's scene south of the stadium. I guess it will be there one more year.

But now I realize there was nothing special about it; just a parking lot with troughs full of ice and beer.

It's a fair trade to infuse even more life into a healthy Campus Corner. That area really is tied into the campus and lends to a much better game day experience.

And to be honest, I don't think I ever stepped foot inside the old OC's location other than on a game day.

oddly enough, game day was one of the few times I wouldn't go to O'Connell's ... me and crowds, not the best of friends

Seems I spent more time hanging out in the parking lot of OC than inside. Don't know how they'll fit the crowds into the new place, but I'm sure it'll work out.

Did it actually open today? I looked in there yesterday and it did not seem it would be ready. I intended to drive by tonight to check it out but have had other things to do.

I called them today and they told me for sure they would be open by this Saturday.

I walked by there this afternoon and peeked in and looked like they were scrambling to be ready so who knows? Maybe an all nighter will do it.

They had their grand opening on Sat. for gameday. The place looked good and I especially liked the covered patio with the windows that open up the outside along Asp.

I visited the new O'connells last friday night....I have to say i was....kinda pleased. The menu was completely changed, no pizza or some other popular items. Now, I was a "regular" at the original o'connell's, back when you could smoke in a bar... I'm sure the new place will come around, but to me the old o'connell's will always have my heart, the smell, the kinda dirtiness of it, the idea you could go there in your PJs and have a beer was great. I dont see the new one having this, being on campus corner. It will become like all the other bars on campus....sadly
