Every job is a big deal. Your reputation follows you wherever you go. I just finished up my application to be admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association. They made me report every job I've ever had. They're actually checking the references I've given. I'm glad now that I've never been fired. It's one less thing I have to explain

I was once in a similar position. Instead of frying food, I used to hock electronics and cell phones at RadioShack. It was a good experience. I made a lot of good connections. Many which I still have to this day. Sure, it was only a job while I was still in highschool and college, but it was where I began to make a name for myself as someone who is dependable.

If you have a reputation for not showing up and leaving your coworkers in a lurch, that'll eventually be how you're known.

When you took the job, you agreed to show up when scheduled. Are you someone whose word is worth something?

    Agreed, Wayne
But to the owner of the store and to the Stockholders and the board of directors and the children of the manager it is their future.

I dont really ave anything to do with them though

Ah, the typical short-sightedness of youth.

The thing is, Wayne, is that everything you do impacts someone else. Even if you're just peddling fried foods.

When I was in high school, and was on the debate team (yeah, yeah, I'm a nerd and I'm totally ok with it) we discussed how the simplest of actions can affect a great many people. We gave our debate coach the example of a cheese shortage. How would a cheese shortage in our town affect the world?

He made a chart on the chalkboard that I will never forget. He actually managed to link a cheese shortage to nuclear war.

I know that is far-fetched, and it's not supposed to be a real example. But here is a more realistic one:

When I was in high school, I didn't have a regular part-time like a lot of kids. My main job was to be a student, according to my mom. But we had a family friend, an attorney, who liked to travel all over the world with his wife. Now, they had a nice little plot of land out in the country, with horses and other animals, and a beautiful home, a swimming pool...the works. When they would travel, I would take care of their dog and cats. I got to use their swimming pool if I wanted. I never abused the privilege, though.

That person helped out my family in many ways, because I was trustworthy. This person wrote letters of rec for me for college, and I have done well for myself. Little things can make a big impact on your life and the life of others.

I seriously doubt that I will make any sort of impression on you, and I don't really even know why you started a thread just to complain about having to go to work at 3 in the afternoon and to complain about being TIRED. Boo friggin' hoo.

A lot of people don't like their jobs. So what? Do you see any of the rest of us posting to say that we don't want to go to work?

Hopefully this will be a learning experience for you--you'll learn what you DON'T want to do for the rest of your life.

Lil Wayne. I have to agree with the other posters. Everything you do affects other people and you down the road. Yes you are young and mistakes are more forgiven, however be proud of your work and you'll succeed further in your long term career. Keep in mind myself and some of these other posters aren't some old fogies giving outdated advice, myself and several others above are in our mid-to-late twenties, not too much older than you, and we can already see how "minor school jobs" are affecting our decisions and careers today. Someone more mature in life and their career could only give even more advice on this.
