Thread: Centennial Land Run Monument

  1. Default Centennial Land Run Monument

Well, with all the immediate attention focused on Clay Bennett's 5 pm Sports Animal stuff just a few minutes away, this seems pretty mundane! But here it goes, just the same.

I've taken Metro's suggestion in a different thread and finally got around to posting a single post about the Oklahoma Land Run Monument, just south of Bass Pro and the Marriott Residents Inn ... I'd post this in the "Bricktown" area here (and if an admin or mod wants to move it to the "Bricktown" area, no problem and feel free) but this project is more pervasive to Oklahoma City (to me) than that.

Anyway, the blog post is here: Doug Dawgz Blog: Oklahoma Land Run Monument

While the post is largely photographic, it also presents information about the project as well as Paul Moore, the sculptor who is putting it all together. It contains images I've previously posted here and many new photos I took yesterday.

Some of the new images are ...

    The Artist, Paul Moore ...

    and his creations ...

I was also interested to see a view of this area from the south side of the I-40 Crosstown, presently under construction ...

There also a few photos of the canal walk in the vicinity ...

There are more than 50 photos in the full post. Enjoy!

That's a great piece, Doug. Thanks for all the pictures and explanation.

Thank you, my Queen of the NBA in OKC! That's not sarcasm, that is a humble expression of unlimited fealty! (In case readers here don't know, Betts is now the owner of the premier OKC forum for local fans new Okc NBA team ... OKCNBAfans.com Forums :: Index ... not that the talk is not good here, but there the NBA in OKC is the single focus. My advice: go to each "devil" forum (ala Berry Tramel) on not less than a daily basis!

    Awesome art!
This needs to be in close proximity to the home games this will be CBS or what ever cutaway shot going in and out of the ad breaks.
Still have the hilly grass areas downtown? near Myriad gardens I think.
    Otherwise must be bricktown.

Not sure how to interpret your comment, NativeOkie. The Land Run Monument is located here ...

What do you mean to ask about the "hilly grass areas" downtown ... maybe you mean the Myriad Gardens area in "downtown" proper, a half-a-mile or a bit more west of the Land Run Monument? ...

    Hey Doug correct as always.
    I was ahead of myself.
The earthquake rattled me too much yesterday.
    Forgot my OKC geography.

I've expanded the article considerably to show the Monument's origins and development, and also to show how it may become more visible when the Crosstown relocation is done ...

Updates on this? Any new monuments installed lately? Will it ever be finished?

It seemed like there were some new pieces the last time I was there, but I don't know for sure.
