The Ride of Silence is an international bike ride that draws attention to bicyclists who have been killed or injured by motor vehicles. In 2007 there were more than 100,000 participants in all 50 states, and in 13 countries on six continents. The 2008 event in Oklahoma City will be held this Wednesday, May 21 at 6:45 p.m. at the Oklahoma State Capitol south plaza. A bagpiper will play “Amazing Grace” promptly at 7:00 p.m., and we will begin our silent, 4.8-mile ride behind a police escort.
If you or your children ride a bike on the roads, I hope that you’ll join us and call attention to the hazards we all face by motor vehicles.
