Random Question About the Crosstown Expy

Does anyone know when discussions began to tear down the crosstown expressway? I know that it's on schedule for a demolition in 2010, but when did the city actually begin the discussion to tear it down and reroute I 40? I seem to remember it was around 10 years ago, but if anyone has more precise information - it would be appreciated. Thanks!

The discussion began about a decade ago - The Oklahoman did an investigation into the condition of the structure in 1996--97 as I recall, and even then the highway was in pretty bad shape.

Actually the schedule now is 2014.

No its scheduled for demo in 2012. The new boulevard will open in 2014.
