Attorney jumps from ledge, survives fall

An Edmond attorney accused of robbing a pharmacy leaped from a ledge outside the Presbyterian Tower of OU Medical Center today. As of 5:30 p.m., he was alive and being treated in the hospital's trauma center.


Mark Myers, spokesman for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department, said Robert Behlen, 50, stabbed himself in the neck with a pencil this morning and was taken to OU Medical Center for treatment.
He was able to lock himself in a hospital room and open a window leading onto the ledge. During the next four hours, he kept emergency workers at bay and was seen going in and out of the room.

He jumped about 4:45 p.m. as Oklahoma County deputies approached the room from the ledge.
Behlen was arrested Sept. 18. He is accused of robbing the Barrett Drug Center in Edmond of a variety of prescription painkillers.
