Urbanized...You are right. Unfortunately (and I'm not making excuses...really), I have been out of school for so long I can't even remember how to do algebra or geometry. Believe me, I've tried. Back when I was in school I think the Univac 1050 was the top of the line computer.
It is just fascinating what the younger folks are doing with their knowledge of computers and such today.
wooo hooo... my thread got resurrected!
I like the I-44 view south of I-40. Kinda cool when you pass airport road and you make the right turn and then you slowly curve around again and you see downtown to your 2 o'clock. Nice sight in the evening.
I used to really enjoy the view from the top of the hill at the south end of Crescent. On a clear night looking south down Highway 74, one could see the downtown skyline of OKC. Once you started down the hill, OKC disappeared until you got near to the old Deer Creek Farm. Now there is too much light pollution from the north suburbs. I still like looking at the downtown skyline during the Christmas season. SkyWest's is a really good view as well.
My favorite is on Walnut Street just north of the bridge.
In the evening you can see to the west the sun setting through the downtown skyline and to the south the lights of Bricktown coming to life.
My favorite is pretty close to that one: coming down Harrison from the direction of I-235 and the health center. Since it approaches the core at an angle to the grid, it re-orients the skyline, closes the gaps between buildings, and makes the skyline much more dense and interesting.
I can understand that point of view. I always get that impression when I am coming into downtown from the south. Since I so rarely do that since I live on the North side it puts things in a different perspective and seems somewhat exciting somehow. I like living in a place where I always have new things to explore.

Welcome to OKCTalk maygog!!!! I like your Avatar!
So after about 2 years and 4 pages only 3 or so pictures to offer to get a first hand idea of these vantage points. Is that an indication that the views are that boring and undramatic?

NW 5th between Dewey and Walker, there is an abandoned lot (like most of midtown, sigh...) that has an amazing vista. You can feel the weight of the buildings from here, as in most of midtown.

And the incompleteness and airiness of this area still endears it to me, until it gets filled with wealthy peeps who can afford those killer views:

And of course the views down the river from anywhere West of Western are great, especially at sunset!
I had always heard that where Mount St. Mary's School is located was the highest point, after that it was always a mix of Lake Hefner or the Baptist location with the tower farm area being behind that.
I do know there is a good view from the roof of One Benham Place and the OPUBCO Tower. When I worked night shift we would watch the lightning hit all the towers from the third floor of OBP looking to the east, we had to shut the systems down during storms since that was before we added a UPS system to the servers, workstations. So we would turn out the lights and watch it dance up and down the towers. The favorite place to watch Fourth of July fireworks was on a sailboat on Lake Hefner, they just seemed to happen all around you back when the country clubs had their own displays.
One of my memories growing up was coming back at night from Altus or Lawton on I-44 and cresting the hill on the turnpike near Tuttle and seeing the city lights just seem to spread out before your eyes, I always loved that.
Like I said, some of this stuff is just what I had been told over the years but never really "knew" for sure. Some of the stuff today triggered that in my mind to ask. Sometimes things that are told as fact seem to be a generic location close by to the actual location.
I like the Lake Overholser dam looking west at twilight and sunset. Amazing view on sunny evenings.
Bigray in Ok
Those areas are probably all very close in height. All three could be the true highest. Baptist has always "looked" high to me, but who knows. Anyone have any idea how we could figure out for sure? I'm curious.
Me too!! I remember, as a kid, riding in the car and seeing the approach from the highland immediately west of the old toll gates on I-44. Love the night vista with ALL THOSE LIGHTS stretching from Norman all the way North as far as the eye could see. It was never ending and always indicated that we had FINALLY made it to Okc.
There really isn't any other vantage point with a view as grand as this. Not even the highlands south of Norman or the I-35 blinking-red-light-tower area.
