Thread: TCU Invited to Big 12 - Expected to Accept

  1. Default Re: TCU Invited to Big 12 - Expected to Accept

Agree...North vs. South with always be lopsided unless you break up Texas and OU.

Also this morning Big East authorized action to add 6 football members to the conference to get them to 12. Big 12 is going to need to move now if they want to secure the better teams.

Big XII north schools probably got tired of getting beat-up every year on national television which is why they are reluctant to go back to 12 teams.

I don't know how to provide links since I just started using forums a couple months ago so I can't provide one, but I just read over on ESPN.com that a source of TCU said yesterday (Sunday) that the heads of TCU are going to accept the Big XII invitation but they're gonna meet today to discuss it some more I suppose. So based on that I'm guessing it could be at any moment here over the next couple of days that TCU officially accepts.

Just copy the address from your browser and paste it in your message.

    http://espn.go.com/dallas/story/_/id...-invite-monday

TCU trustees will meet on Monday and then are expected to accept the Big 12's invitation to join the conference, sources confirmed Sunday.

In a statement Monday, the school said it will make a "major announcement" at 7 p.m. ET at the Kelly Center on campus.

A move to the Big 12 allows TCU to rekindle some of the rivalries it had for so long in the Southwest Conference, which disbanded in 1996

Thank you JTF, I'll try it next time I find something worth while.

I love the horned frog in TCU's logo.

Since another Texas team has joined in the South, OSU should be moved to the Big 12 North.

There are no divisions unless there are 12 teams...

  10. Default Re: TCU Invited to Big 12 - Expected to Accept

The past several weeks, I thought TCU was Tulsa. To find its -censored- Texas team.... *pukes*

Doesn't really go with TCU, but this is the more active realignment thread now.

San Diego State Univ has made a presentation to the Big 12 to provide notice it is interested in joining.

This isn't going anywhere, but this quote is good...

So far, the Big 12 has indicated to Sterk that it was “looking more east than west and staying in their footprint right now.” But Sterk said Big 12 officials also told him SDSU’s package was “good powerful information, well put together and that they would look at it as their realignment committee developed.”
So the big hint, which is pretty well known, any more schools are likely going to be either in the existing Big 12 footprint or to the east. This fits with current rumors going around.

Yuck. That would be another poor choice. SDSU has a terrible football program. I'm glad they were basically told "Thanks, but no thanks."

Working on a new chart to help keep all the stupid rumors straight - since I'm sure this will go on for another season or two.

I expect the Big 12 to invite U of H next....there's no way Arkansas will leave the SEC.

Arkansas already said that they won't leave the SEC. The Big XII contacted them at some point a few months ago and Arkansas said "thanks, but no thanks."

As for Houston, I won't speculate.

It's already been stated that no more Texas teams will be added so Houston is out of luck. The most likely candidates are Louisville, West Virginia, Cincinnati, BYU, and Boise State in that order. Everything is on hold right now until Mizzou or the SEC make up their mind.

Houston would definitely benefit as far as exposure and recruiting are concerned...not sure what it would mean for strength of schedule though

Side note- Isn't OU scheduled to take on TCU in Fort Worth for the 1st game of the season? This turns a non-conference game into a conference game...

Yes. OU will have to add a new non-conference game now.

Oh wow...wasn't aware of the "no more Texas teams" arrangement. I figured BYU would be higher on that list .

I'm glad Houston won't be invited. We've already got more small schools than any conference but the Big Least. Cincinnati is another poor choice. None of them are great, but those are the two worst, IMO.

I had no clue OU was scheduled to take on TCU in Forth Worth. I guess they'll be doing that every other year now.

Not sure if this was linked already...http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201..._a13&eref=sihp

This focuses on Missouri leaving for the SEC and what it would entail...
    - $10.4 million exit fee to leave in 24 months
    - $25.9 million exit fee to leave for next season...would include all 2011 & 2012 TV revenue to go to the Big 12
    - Will make $12 million more per year in the SEC
    - Would be the 4th AAU member in the SEC, same number in Big 12
    - Big 12 expects Missouri to stay, SEC says they aren't moving to 14 just yet - makes me think Missouri isn't giving any hints yet to anyone
    - Next meeting by Missouri heads will be October 20th.

Now for another part that is not Missouri specific, the report that they extracted the above info from also contained the target schools by the Big 12 for expansion.
    - TCU...finalized/accepted today
    - BYU
    - Louisville
    - West Virginia
    - Notre Dame...all sports EXCEPT football

Going by the list, I have to assume the BYU/UL/WVU/ND plan is only going to get executed once Missouri gives notice. BYU is the least difficult to get. UL/WVU/ND may be required to pay the Big East exit fees and wait 27 months until they can leave. ND may not have the same rules since they are all sports except football with the Big East. However, I would imagine if 2 or more schools exit the Big East that the conference would pretty much be done and the exit fees could be challenged.

I can accept this set of schools and getting ND in conference as a non-football member would definitely be a boost to the other sports and also overall conference academics. I would also imagine that it would encourage ND to schedule more football games with Big 12 members and give the conference more exposure overall...at least for the teams that aren't on TV a lot.

Not likely but several big 12 schools would like to have more of a hook into recruiting in California and it is in a decent media market so worth considering.

Adding San Diego St isn't as bad an idea as some people think.

    1) It is a large media market
    2) It is a bowl game equvalient trip for a lot of teams
    3) Gains access to Southern California recruiting
    4) Should be an easy win for most teams
