If you're basing your vote on the "craziness" of a few people, taken out of context on an internet thread that you just started participating in 2 days ago, then that's just about as nuts as the Thunder moving back to Seattle because of Shadid. You obviously got into this too late to understand why a lot of the "craziness" is occurring. At any rate, glad you chose Mick, but if I were you, I wouldn't waste anymore time on this thread.

I think if I had been involved in this thread before two days ago I would have been just as caught up in it as so many and the insanity wouldn't have been obvious.

Apparently voter turnout has been low enough that David Holt sent out an email requesting help from anyone that can show up for the remainder of the afternoon. He mainly wants people to go hold up signs on street corners, etc. I'm going over to wave a sign around like an idiot for an hour or so at about 5:15 if anyone else wants to join.

#550171 - I voted at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at NW 19th & Portland.

Beautiful Catholic church, I remember when they built it back in the 60s at a cost of $1 million. This was the jewel of the Oklahoma City diocese then to later be elevated to archdiocese in 1972. Man, that was when the series 'The Millionaire' was airing during the fifties and sixties; Michael Anthony delivered those anonymous checks ($1 million) from John Beresford Tipton, Jr., that was when money went a long ways (Sorry, for that Walter Mitty moment).

We need to settle this today without a costly taxpayer 'run-off' election so that the city can move forward.

Mick Cornett's re-election could see us move forward with something proposed on a 700-plus room hotel along with the new convention center. Plans like this would not be revealed to give Dr. Ed Shadid ammunition to attack the Cornett campaign. A structure of that magnitude should add another 25-30 story building to the Oklahoma City Skyline.

Dr. Ed Shadid will probably become so exhausted from this election that he will see that it is an uphill battle to continue to derail the voter approved 2009 projects.

I sent my boss to vote this afternoon. She lives in the far NW part of the city with a Yukon address and didn't even realize she could vote.

My wife and I voted at 5:15, and there was a steady stream of people (but no line). We were #233 and #234, respectively.

Suspect you could take a sampling of, oh, maybe five or six key precincts from across the city and have a pretty darned good picture of the results by about 7:20.

Put it a different way, if we don't have a pretty good idea by about 7:20-7:30, and the result lingers much beyond oh, say, 8pm or more, then I'd start worrying.

We got a Shadid robocall at 5:41. He urged us to go vote even though the weather is bad (or words to that effect). Seemed odd to call so late but maybe it it just because I voted, this morning. Kudos to him for not just lying down.

(Yeah, note, suppression may have been strong, since there's no actual intimidation in place... but I firmly believe they were sent out to discourage a certain segment of voters from voting today, and too little effort was made to fix it to tell me otherwise).

Early returns - about 3K votes counted, Cornett polling just under 70%.

Anyone know the normal turnout for an election? I was thinking 50-60K but I could be way off.

In the 2010 election, there were just under 24,000 votes cast.
