Mt. Everest Cuisines -Edmond Indian and Nepali Food

My wife and I went to Mt. Everest for the first time this week. Hands down the best Indian and Nepali food that we have had in north OKC/Edmond since the demise of Namaste.

It might rank the highest we have had in the Oklahoma City area period. We went for dinner and ordered off of the menu. They do not have the buffet at night, which is fine. I write this not as a comparison of buffets, but of the quality of the individual dishes.

I had Chicken Madras and she had Chicken Korma. True almond based Korma of any find seems hard to find in OKC.

This place is in the shopping strip next to Mcallisters, GNC, and neighborhood Walmart near 2nd/Edmond Road and Bryant. Great location. I wish them lots of success and will frequent this place.

They also do take out and the typical Indian buffet at lunch. Will post pics later.

I was just getting ready to give a shout out to Mt. Everest in the Edmond Restaurant Thread, so I'm glad you did it here.

My wife and I have been there a number of times over the last several months, both for dinner and the lunch buffet, and we feel it's without question one of the better India Restaurants we've eaten. We've tried both the Indian and Nepali dishes and have enjoyed all of them. The last time we were there, we got Vegetable MoMo, Samosa Chat, Vegetable Jalfrezi and Garlic Naan....all absolutely outstanding!

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Indian food...you won't regret it.

If you go to their web site, you can ask them directly. I asked about their buffet and got a quick answer... "Buffet Lunch everyday from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM."

I'll be trying the buffet as a way to sample several items. Cheers!

Went last night - very good! I admit was a bit in the dark on what to order so just went with some suggestions from the server and owner who were very nice and helpful. My wife went gaga over some sort of fried soy beans with some spices and garlic on them - very crunchy and good. The fried momo (?) w chicken was great too - was in the Nepali Appetizer list.

My wife and I have been about 70% vegan for the last 5 years(first year 100% vegan), and have found most ethnic restaurants offer a fairly decent selection of vegan or vegetarian dishes. The dishes I mentioned above should be vegan since I don't think they contain any meat or dairy.

Thai Delight, Lemongrass, Simply Falafel, Let's Do Greek, Zarate's are all some of our favorite restaurants and they all have numerous vegan and vegetarian dishes.

I was there last night as well. I ordered off the Nepali menu and everything was mostly vegan. They do have yogurt sauces and the cheese and spinach thing on the veg thali. I took pictures and sent them to my Nepali friend and she said it all looked authentic, so there is that. The only thing that was disappointing was the crispy fennel flat bread was soggy.

Chicken Korma today.

I ate here for the first time this evening, and I too had the chicken korma. I choose well, it was fantastic. Great addition for Edmond.

The Gazette had a review on Mt. Everest this week. Heading over there this evening to try the aloo papri chaat...sounds delicious. Pair it up with samosa chaat and some garlic naan for a tasty meal.

You will need a Sherpa. Many have tried and failed to summit Mt. Everest, but those who do almost always need a guide. It is too difficult a trek to make without preparation and someone who knows the way.

That is not to say that you would die inside Edmond’s Mt. Everest Cuisines, 1169 E. Second St. But to find the best Nepali and Indian food on the menu, it’s best to talk to your server.

I was ready to gloss past MoMos ($6.95) when the owner helped guide me back, and thank goodness he did. These perfect steamed chicken and vegetable dumplings were the high point of a stellar meal.

Sorry to pan it but. We went about 6 months ago and marked it off the list. You can't try to do it all. If you're a Pakistani joint do Pakistani. Punjab, do Punjab. I take serious issue with southern, eastern, and Nepali Indian places trying to do food from other regions. Especially if the cook's religious belief bans them from eating/tasting the meat they're cooking...conflict of interest??? fyi I'm %99 sure the naan and other roasted items are done in a pizza oven. Tandoors are expensive and rare. The difference is clear. And it's all in the char. For the real authentic you have to go outside your shell and do places like manna or kabob & curry. The rasoi chaat cafe is even great for southern style vegetarian. This is not a direct attack on Himalayas, Mt. Everest, or the inevitable Kathmandu restaurants. Just the culture of bad Indian in OKC.

Indian food doesn't come from a buffet people! But as long as you keep buying it. They'll keep selling it.

All that said the Nepalis items I've tried are pretty tasty although I have no reference. We're just chomping at the bit for the real deal curry house. Hell I'd finance one.

While I agree about the buffet point, I think the idea of the buffet is a good idea for people who haven't tried Indian food. It's great for exposure.

I agree about the exposure... I might have never tried it had it not been for the buffet option.... At the same time I am with Uptowner now. I would rather order from a menu..... So I tend to frequent Kabob & Curry or Sheesh Mahal these days.... Unless I'm just in the mood for unlimited quantities of mushroom soup... Then I still hit Gopuram for that fix.

The buffets would be fine of it were just lunch or on Sundays. I don't even think goppouram has a menu any more, and I don't think Taj ever had one other than some chaat and southern hindu vegetarian specialties.

The buffet food is soooo bland and in such big batches I'm never feeling, tasting, seeing any love put into it. I'm scared to think of what kind of substitutes must be made to hit cost when making chicken tikka masala in 50 gallon batches which the main ingredient is butter and cream, and in the nicer joints, actual chicken tikka, marinated and tandoor fired on a skewer from the clay oven cooked to order.

You could apply the same logic to any buffet restaurant. Once you've had Mac n' cheese mashed potatoes and prime rib at the Golden Corral and realize, "okay this doesn't completely suck." Then you go to a restaurant like iron star that does all of those things but delicious! And leave the buffet for when you want to eat 4 meals and half a dozen yeast rolls then cry a little as you have to unbutton your dungarees just to make the drive home before the drowsiness kicks in.

I feel like as soon as someone mixes food with a place like mana and service+atmosphere of a place like pizzeria gusto. We could have the pizzeria gusto of Indian food. But some people don't like pizzeria gusto, and that's fine, there's still several CiCi's buffets located conveniently throughout the metro.
