Metro Music Fest (ACM@UCO) rocks Bricktown

Not sure if this has gotten the attention it deserves here. This event is Friday, April 10, and they have seriously stepped it up, IMO. In the past it has been known as ACM@UCO Rocks Bricktown, but has now been re-branded. It generally consists largely of ACM bands near the end of the school year, at various stages throughout the district and in past years has culminated in a single name headliner. They've changed up the approach this year and now have Oklahoma-based headliners who are getting lots of national attention. BRONCHO, John Fullbright and Shiny Toy Guns are fantastic gets.

ACM@UCO TO PRESENT BIGGER, BOLDER MUSIC FESTIVAL IN BRICKTOWN APRIL 10

The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma (ACM@UCO) will invade Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district with more than 60 ACM@UCO student bands performing in 10 different venues as a part of its “ACM@UCO Metro Music Fest” event, featuring free live music throughout the district starting at 3 p.m., Friday, April 10.

Formerly known as “ACM@UCO Rocks Bricktown,” this is the sixth year the ACM@UCO has produced a festival of this scale. Each year the festival has grown in popularity, drawing more than 15,000 attendees in 2014.

The “ACM@UCO Metro Music Fest” is a part of the University of Central Oklahoma’s yearlong celebration of the university’s 125th anniversary and will feature a variety of established Oklahoma artists celebrating the state’s impressive musical legacy. Notable artists include BRONCHO, John Fullbright, Matt Stansberry and The Romance, and Horse Thief, among others.

“This year, we wanted to create an opportunity for our students to perform with other Oklahoma artists that have gained some national and international success,” said Scott Booker, CEO and executive director of ACM@UCO.

“The ACM@UCO Metro Music Fest will truly be a transformative learning experience for our students, which we continually strive to provide to each student who enters our program.”

In addition to the music performances, the academy will host a series of educational panels from 3-6 p.m. in the ACM@UCO Songwriting Room, located on the lobby level of the campus at 25 S. Oklahoma Ave. Panel topics include “Music and Film: A Perfect Pair” with deadCENTER Film Festival executive director Lance McDaniel at 3 p.m., “From Local to National: MMF Headliners Talk Music Career Growth Beyond Oklahoma” at 4 p.m., and “Ableton Live: A Demonstration” at 5 p.m.

Additionally, the 2015 festival will feature a marketplace component for the first time. The “ACM@UCO Metro Music Fest Market” will offer festival attendees the opportunity to participate in a silent auction featuring ACM@UCO music gear, amps, books and more. Music industry retailers will also set up shop for record and music gear sales. Retailers include Red Dirt Brothers, Trolley Stop Record Shop and Walrus Audio. The market will take place from 3-8 p.m. on the lobby level of the ACM@UCO.

Admission to all venues is free. Event sponsors include AT&T, Bricktown Brewery, deadCENTER Film Festival, Downtown OKC, Inc., Henry Hudson’s Public House, Keep It Local OK, The Oklahoma Gazette, Walrus Audio, Wells Fargo Advisors, 98.9 KISS FM, 100.5 KATT FM and 104.9 WILD FM.

I think I've seen him working at Fassler Hall recently. A friend I grew up with is in the band. Never thought I'd see a country boy from Checotah in a psychedelic folk rock band.

Went with the wife on Friday night, and Bricktown was really on fire. Music and people all over the place. As a musician who grew up at a time when OKC's music scene was struggling to catch on, I'm really happy to see what ACM is doing here.
