It was leading news for a day or two. Police released footage 'hoping to identify the culprits.' However, once they realized who they were the kids of (within hours of releasing the footage), now, nothing.
i agree with you I think they should be charged.

That creates a murky precedence. Victims are always welcome to actually pursue and prove their case in civil court and get a judgement or settlement. The "I see nothing wrong with [buying my way out of criminal acts]" simply opens the door for well-to-do criminals to commit sexual assaults , etc. without much fear of going to jail.

How about if SAE was simply allowed to write a check to OU anytime they wanted to sing their racist chant? Would you see anything wrong with that? (I realize that isn't a criminal case, but could possibly fall within the realm of your thinking)

What if some guy goes on a raping spree of single mom's who don't make a lot of money..... A lawyer approaches them and says, "Hey, sure you can testify against my guy and he goes to prison. But where does that leave you? Still a broke single mom. How about if he gives you $300,000 and you tell the DA not to pursue charges?" Can you see the problem this would create?

Not to say it doesn't happen to a degree. That could certainly be going on now. My GUESS is that is why formal charges have not been filed yet - to give the well connect and wealthy families a chance to buy their kids out of this. Once there is actually a criminal case filed, it would make it much more difficult for mommy and daddy to buy their kids way out of this. If charges haven't been filed it is much more of a gray area in the law.

I've worked some criminal cases where the accused wanted to offer to 'settle' with the alleged victim. In one case recently, a doctor accused of sexual assault made a large monetary offer and the DA's office threatened several more charges if that happened. Just depends on the climate of your DA's office and who allegedly committed the crime.

In smaller cases - and maybe they are considering this a smaller case - the DA's office is actually a part of the 'settlement.' Often people who write bad checks are allowed to make good on them and prove it to the DA's office and the charge is dropped. A local OKC lawyer caught in a prostitution sting was told by the DA's office to write a $1,000 check to a women's non-profit and they wouldn't file charges. I know a shoplifter that reimbursed a store they stole from and charges were dropped. So, it does happen, but I think it should be limited to things like petty theft, shoplifting, bogus checks, etc. Not physical violence, anything where a weapon is used, sexual assault, prostitution, etc.

Its also a double edged sword. A crime victim is expected to cooperate in the prosecution's case. However, while the prosecution gets justice (a guilty verdict and possible prison), the victim often gets nothing - or not nearly the monetary compensation they deserve. However, if a person files a civil case at the same time as the criminal case, then the criminal defendant's lawyer uses that against them in court claiming this is simply all about the money.

    Its a screwy system.

    All men are created equal.
All wallets are not created equal.

Both of the above statements are more true than false.
Not saying that's just fine and dandy.

Im not saying its right, but if someone beat a person up then offered $100K to keep their mouth shut they would be silly to not entertain the idea. And if they do take the money then that's that.

That's fine for civil actions, not so much for criminal. Remember in criminal actions it is " The State of Oklahoma v. Defendant". There were costs to society that were incurred by these hoodlums that are not recovered by the authorities as of yet.

Ha! I forget how many higher ups read this board. Guess I touched a nerve. I've been assured the names I have are correct and that charges are coming soon.

Did you post the names and they got deleted or something? If not, who were the two guys the police wanted identified?

I can't reveal, but one will be testifying against the other.

I was surprised to see on the OKCPD FB page they named the 15 year old juvenile who has now been arrested.

Not sure this is the same event.
Not sure I like that FB naming notion very much.

Don't think so. Said video shows three against one.

There was a video that surfaced last week on Facebook and then later on local news stations that showed a brutal beating that took place in Oklahoma City. Three suspects were eventually identified, one of which has now been arrested. 15 year-old Christopher (A.) was arrested last night by officers from our Gang Unit. He was booked into the Berry House (juvenile detention facility) on a complaint of aggravated assault and battery, which is a felony crime. Two other suspects are still outstanding. We will keep you posted.

They are talking about a video by PCW and the suspect was arrested by the Gang Unit. If there was a drunk 15 year old at Dust Bowl they would have more to worry about.

Not the same video as the Fassler Hall beating.

It's all a public record now. The two males in the assault video are Samuel Hogan and Alexander Chase Lake. Hogan will apparently testify against Lake if needed (to avoid charges most likely). A warrant has been issued for Lake. Some might recall that Hogan made news last year after he allegedly went to a haunted house and assaulted a costumed worker - a teen girl. That case is still active.

Has there been talk of what might go in the east spaces of this complex?

There is quite a bit of space over there and I think they are going to be selective about to whom they rent.

Same with the former Meg Guess space.

MidtownR has done a great job of being patient and ultimately landing some great tenants that bring a lot to the area.

Geez, just catching up on current events. Since its apparent everyone know's who these rich kid delinquents are. Can me and my other small business drinking establishment owning fellows get a list of names so we can kick these douchebags out on the curb if they ever show their faces?

The Flashback pub would be a great fit for Midtown in either one of the open areas.

I have concluded that Fassler Hall is definitely my scene. While I am happy the proprietors are printing money, I can't imagine I'll be be patronizing it any time in the near future.

Why yes, I did. Thanks for the edit. I view Fassler Hall as a particularly loud but not especially interesting place to get hammered. The German sausages are OK. Just not my scene. For the legions of younger folk on a quest to get hammered in a rowdy hall, Prost. Just not my barrel of lager.

I went during a lunch period, so the atmosphere was much different. We could enjoy our drinks and our food in relative peace. We thought the sausages were more than just OK...
