Thread: OKC Mayor Race 2014

A lot of people in those outer precincts don't think they're in OKC because of their zip code, school district, etc. So amplify general apathy and low turn out by the number of people who didn't know they were eligible to vote, and I could see it happening.

Is there a map that would show which 35 precincts Ed won? I'm guessing he did pretty well in Ward 2, based on the tie in 193. That should make 2016 interesting.

Yeah, expect the part of the interview where he explicitly talked about neighborhoods. Gah, what the hell, people.

At least twice, and goes on to point out that you need a strong economy in order to pay for things like neighborhood improvements, new police officers, and fire stations. He talks about how MAPS 3 will improve neighborhoods with trails.

I'm looking forward to the next 4 years in OKC.

I think wards, and their subdivisions, are designed to be of the same approximate size population wise. Does seem odd that not one person voted, though it has probably palyed out like that in many places.

Precinct boundaries are set by election commissions and sometimes straddle municipal boundaries. It may be that the portions of those precincts which are inside OKC's boundaries do not have residents. I know of at least one precinct in another local City which is like that.

There is a precinct southwest of Yukon (it is OKC city limits) where about a dozen farmers vote at West Point Church, at least they used too. I can see where they would pass on voting, but you'd think the volunteer that opens it up would vote....it's usually someone from the area.

I'll have to chime in here, even though I said I wouldn't, because I was putting signs out early election morning. That was the second to last precinct for me and I felt like I'd driven into a small town. I couldn't believe it was OKC. I did see someone pull into the parking lot as I was putting signs out though, so it might not even be one of the voter-less ones.

Were you one of three people I watched place a half dozen illegal Mick signs in the right-of-way on the corner or NW 16th and Council about 7am? They are still there. Can you get someone out and clean up that mess in my neighborhood or do I need to call the action center?

Jeeves, you need to take a step back here. You've threatened in this thread to sue people and are now just looking pathetic complaining about signs in the right of way. Both candidates had volunteers place signs in illegal places.

Will you call your friends and have them pick up all the illegal Shadid campaign signs and the FOP signs in my neck of the woods please?

That's a non partisan complaint. If they were Ed signs cluttering up the corner a couple blocks from my house and the possible culprit, or at least part of the team, was talking about it I'd be asking the same thing. There aren't 7 Ed signs on the right-of-way in my neighborhood a couple of blocks from my house. There's one standing and one laying down several blocks farther away that have been there for awhile. My guess is an actual resident of the neighborhood placed it on the right-of-way they mow, illegally too, but not some team from headquarters blanketing the city and then spending the next day on the internet talking about it.

Why did you take the time out to say "half dozen"? It's much easier on the fingers to type "six" -- you're being overly dramatic.

I think it's time to lock this thread.

Because I wasn't sure without counting. I believe it's seven.

What about all the signs from the OKC Police who support ES or the DRED signs on the Hefner Parkway entrance and exit ramps?

I don't know anyone with the FOP, don't know anyone officially with Shadid's campaign and don't know of any of my friends who support Ed (or mick) volunteering to place signs illegal or otherwise. Even a monkey at a keyboard will get lucky sometime, keep stabbing at those keys and maybe you'll type something factually relevant eventually.

No that was not me, but I will try to have someone pick them up.

I've been picking up my signs although I'm not done, but none of mine were on the north side.

Congratulations to Mayor Mick Cornett who cultivated his campaign about his success as mayor. 'Stick with Mick..."

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."--2 Timothy 4:7

Dr. Shadid headed a controversial campaign with many attempts to poison the minds of the voters into thinking that Mayor Mick Cornett was shuffling cards 'under the table.

Dr. Shadid, it's time to put your disappointment aside and move on for the better of yourself and Oklahoma City. Don't allow yourself to become preoccupied and obsessed with getting revenge because your little scheme backfired on you. Time for some fence mending and moving on.

As a physician who works on spines, use some preventive measures on yourself; it isn't healthy to harbor hate. It will turn on you!

"Oklahoma City looks oh-so pretty... ...as I get my kicks on Route 66." --Nat King Cole.

Why do people want this thread locked? Is there some function on this site that makes people read these threads if they don't want to? I think this has been a pretty important discussion and will continue to be one.

The same reason we don't want to see all of the politics threads that are intentionally left out of the latest posts tab. It has been a good discussion sometimes, other times it has just been people attacking each other.
