Good ? Kevin, when are the debates? we don't want low info voters right?
Do we even have debates for municipal officials?

I am pretty sure Tulsa had a few debates for the Mayoral office.

El Shadid? Is that his drug mule name?

    Help me understand the difference.

OKC has weak-mayor. The mayor is merely a spokesperson, and 1 of 9 votes on council. He is more of a city-wide councilman.

Strong mayor means the mayor has ultimate authority on the approval/disapproval.

The difference is night and day. Debates for a weak mayor would be pretty funny. "How would you handle agendas if you were mayor?"
Got it. Thanks for the clarification. Why does our mayor have different mayoral duties than Tulsa? I guess they are not the same across the board like I thought...

Edgar, given your preferred challenger' lack of municipal voting record, his beyond merely unimpressive explanation for same, his background, and how he has approached it, his attacks on MAPs after previously pitching it needs to go forward, not having any debates would have to be seen as an act of kindness to your choice more than anything else.

Like you though, I am not an OKC voter. Should the challenger or anyone want to kick his positions, odd representations and suitablility for office across a stage and back again, that's not a call for me to make. His handlers though should probably keep him as far from that idea as they can. I can not imagine it ending well for him.

There are several different forms of municipal government. Aldermanic, Strong-Mayor-Council, Council-Manager, etc. Each one is bound by both different state statutes (Title 11 in Oklahoma) and local charter.
I'm 34 and I am a college graduate. I should probably know this stuff but I don't deal with it on a day to day basis like a lot of people. Thanks for the insite.

What good is a debate, when you can't trust El Shadid to keep his word?

Show me what you'll do, candidate, don't tell me. Ed has shown me quite enough, thank you, and then some. Every single thing that has happened since his election strengthens my decision to vote for Mick.

I think it is telling that a lot of strong Democrats are planning to vote for Republican Mick.

Not that parties have as much to do with municipal elections as they do at higher levels, but it indicates a real problem with Shadid here.

    Edgar,

How do you reconcile Ed's lack of civic participation with his desire to undo what has passed a vote of city residents?

Absentee voting records is an issue I have discovered - I voted in a couple elections while deployed and when I had an opportunity to look at my voting record, those votes were missing. Every other election I have voted in was listed but none of my absentee ballots. It verifies that absentee votes are likely not counted unless the election is close enough to be changed by those ballots.

There has been several comment Ed has made that make me wonder if he knew the type of mayor system we have in place or if he was going to push to switch formats, since that is the only way he could back up some of his promises.

Cynicism about city politics, and like most everyone who voted on MAPSIII he was uninformed on the cc proposal and what a finanacial mistake it'll be for his hometown, leaving less to adress neglected core functons, police, fire, transport etc.

So because he's a cynic he gets a free pass? And because he chose to be uninformed about Maps 3, he also gets a free pass?

Knowing Ed, he will tell them he wants to stop the MAPS tax collection and hire more police and firemen. He'll leave out the end poverty, fix the educational system, build a bus system that will transport the poor and carless to the tune of tens of millions of dollars of O&M part. Will they be fooled? Have they been paying attention?

LOLZ... Hilarious. If I were Mayor Cornett, I would tell him to go over to corner and sit there and rot.

Wonder how well received it would be if some of his most diehard transit fans showed up waving signs that say

    Whadda We Want?
    More Busses!
    When do we want 'em?
    Now!

The fact that he's trying to suck up to OCPAC is further evidence that he is willing to deceive for votes. He'll leave out 75% of his stated campaign goals and hope they haven't been paying attention. Slimy at best, dishonest in actuality. Leopards don't change their spots.

Poor baby. Voting is really tough when you're smarter than everyone else. Oh wait.

    Uh huh. Nice try.

I wasn't even an OKC resident and I knew that the CC might need a phase II and a hotel was a possibility. What does it say that a non-resident paid more attention than a man trying to be mayor?
