I'm a Sooner fan but am embarrassed that Stoops would offer 2 different philosophies on this situation in 2 consecutive years. The sports networks are having a ball showing the video of the conflicting opinions over 12 months from Coach Stoops. We have the same record and KSU beat us in the head to head matchup, let's be honest that Stoops was correct last year and that Kansas State is the champion of the Big 12. I wonder if this is really Bob's campaign to get the conference championship bonus in his contract.

But KSU lost to a team that OU beat. See how it kind of goes in a circle. KSU gets the Big XII BCS slot because of the head to head win.

..or are you saying Baylor should be the Big XII champ because after all, they beat KSU.

Quite appropriately, Zookeeper's post says it all. As for OSU losing to OU this year, not unexpected with as many Srs as they had graduate in 2011. (when the score wasn't quite as close..)

Northern Illinois has been picked by the Orange Bowl. OU will not be going to a BCS bowl.

    L.A. Times -

Northern Illinois' bid knocks out Oklahoma, the presumed at-large bid from the Big 12.

BCS rules stipulate a team from a "nonqualifier" conference earns a bid if it finishes in the top 16 ahead of a major conference champion. Northern Illinois is already assured of finishing ahead of both the Big East (Louisville) and Big Ten (Wisconsin) champions.

Northern Illinois, 12-1, started the weekend at No. 21 in the BCS standings and then defeated Kent State in double overtime Friday night to clinch the MAC title.

Four schools ahead of Northern Illinois lost -- Nebraska, Texas, UCLA and Kent State -- increasing the chance the Huskies could slip in and steal the last spot.

The real shocker was Nebraska dropping eight spots to No. 21 after a 70-31 loss to Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game.

The news firms up this year's bowl lineup:

    BCS: Notre Dame vs. Alabama

    Rose: Stanford vs. Wisconsin

    Fiesta: Oregon vs. Kansas State

    Sugar: Florida vs. Louisville

Orange: Northern Illinois vs. Florida State

The only downside to the news for Northern Illinois is that Coach Dave Doeren announced after Friday's win that he had accepted the head coaching job at North Carolina.

So where does that leave the Sooners? Any word on a backup bowl if BCS didn't work out? I'm really surprised.

So I guess that you disavow the 1976 Big 8 Co-Championship that OSU claims? It was a three way tie between OU, OSU and Colorado. OSU beat OU and lost to Colorado.

Kinda cool for fans of N Illinois to get to experience a BCS bowl

Gundy to Tennessee rumors are heating up with plenty of talk about VERY BIG problems between T. Boone, Mike, and Mike.

Bandwagon poke fans will soon be jumping the sinking ship, again.

All 3,000 of them. I love seeing college football implode when they started chasing money over tradition.

KOCH Fox 25 and Jim Traber reports there is tension between Mike and the higher up’s at OSU
The station also reports that Tennessee has visited with Gundy

Wow, Les leaves then maybe Gundy leaves? That would suck but I would not complain though but I would feel sorry for the fans going through a new head coach all over again after just a few years at least Stoops stayed for 13 years and counting....

From what I've read, there is ongoing (and apparently substantial) bad blood between Gundy and Holder over two main issues:

    1. Gundy wants to have more control over scheduling, including reducing the number of high-profile home games. Bottom line, Gundy wants to schedule more like Bill Snyder does. Holder wants to schedule more like Castiglione does, bringing in at least one marquee name to Stillwater each year.

    2. Holder negotiated a quick deal for the Pokes' basketball coach last year, who has yet to truly put that program back on the map a la the Sutton era. Gundy thought that he had done as least as much for football as Ford had done for basketball, and deserved at least as quick and as lucrative a deal. Holder wouldn't do it.

Gundy put himself behind a bit of an eightball when he was hired by proclaiming to the world that OSU was his "New York Yankees" job, meaning that Holder could take any notions of leaving with a grain of salt. Right or wrong, Holder's in a position of strength right now, because the value OSU's HC position has been elevated considerably in the last five years, so while the loss of Gundy would hurt, OSU would have at least the chance to talk to some good candidates should he really leave. OTOH, OSU is still not a destination job, and Gundy's departure would imply the loss of continuity in a pretty good system they've started up there. ULtimately, its a matchup of egos, and I think anyone who simply believes OSU would go on without a hiccup should Gundy actually leave are being naive.

My own uninformed opinion? I think Gundy is listening, and if someone really believed in him, and were willing to take a chance on a (relatively) young coach with a pretty decent track record in building a program that has, for a long time, lived in the shadow of its big brother, they'd give him a package he might not be able to turn down. And Tennessee is precisely the kind of program that could do it, too, with its large fanbase, its SEC roots, and its longing to return to relevance after a long, long time on the sidelines.

Nothing may happen, but I think the situation bears very, very close observation. If anyone dismisses out-of-hand the idea that Gundy might leave, is being really naive. Not saying he's going, but the probability isn't zero, either.

Tickets are apparently already on StubHub for $30. Because of the ticket purchase requirements for BCS participants, NIU will have to buy more tickets for this game than they average for their home games. Heard one offhand comment suggest the actual $$ amount could be roughly equivalent to an entire season's athletic revenue...but don't know if that was sarcasm or legit.

This whole situation is just asinine.

I would call that someone who is playing by the rules set up BEFORE THE SEASON, and is playing by the rules just as they have been for over 50 years when there was no conference championship game. Every school claims co-championships like this. Every team.

If you don't like the rules then change them. K-State shouldn't lose a to a crappy Baylor team that OU handled if they wanted an outright title.

Looking at how steamed Gundy was in his public statement about getting the crap bowl of the Big 12 tie ins, there is definitely something going on there. It does suck being #4 in the conference and getting the #8 bowl slot. Seems a little questionable to shove both Oklahoma teams into Dallas bowls.

If that is true, NIU could be the only team in BCS history to actually lose money by going to a BCS game. That is like winning a Lamborghini and then having to sell the double-wide to pay the taxes on it. Sometimes you are better off not winning.

WOW -- When did he say that??

That's not quite a bridge-burning thing to say, but man, its lighting a match and dropping it on kindling.

Well...crap bowl wasn't his words exactly, but when you read his statement it is pretty clear...

"I'm surprised," continued Gundy in discussing how the Cowboys fell down the Big 12 bowl ladder. "Wherever the conference sends us is where we go, and they sent us to this one. I can only say that I'm surprised that we are in this bowl because I heard some feedback from you guys that Alamo and then after that one is Buffalo Wild Wings and then San Diego.

"We finished tied for third in the league, correct? I don't have a clue to know why we fell. I wouldn't know where to start (in trying to figure it out)"

Actually, it's not that uncommon for a school to lose money going to a BCS game.
