The only people making a big deal out of this book, are those well...look at the thread. The rest of us with open minds realize what books are - written by MAN. There will always be embelishments to anything written by a human being, especially those passed down. So what do we do? Daisy had the BEST idea...use it as a spring board to learn more. Do not take any one thing written by a human to be the absolute truth. Why? You have to understand that these are stories and in order for them to last, there has to be some creativity put in.
DaVinci Code is a story...about certain viewpoints of the author...but nonetheless a story. If it makes you think about your beliefs and want to learn more...GREAT. No one on this planet should base their beliefs on something so simple as a single source or what the guy in church says on Sunday. Learn for yourself and expand your understanding of Christ, Alla, Buddah, the Goddess, whatever your God is called.
This also points out another important thing...NEVER take anything written word for word...regardless of what it is. These are words written by a human and they will be manipulated to serve the author. Use them as a starting point or a reference, but expand your mind and reach out to other resources to expand your knowledge of the topic.
You studying for finals too? We have ours next week.....3 comprehensive finals over the whole year....Pathology, Pharmacology, and Principles of Clinical Medicine. We already had our Psych final!Originally Posted by Midtowner
By the way, I'm on my 2nd 2 liter of Dr. Pepper. Wish I could get into coffee.
The wife is requiring that I get to bed by 2:30AM tonight. She originally wanted 2 AM, I wanted 3 AM, so that was our compromise.
I'll be up bright and early tomorrow.
Sorry for the brief break in the topic.
lol, i cant wait til i have to stay up that late, i generally goto bed because there is nothing for me to do.
also, gnosis is;
While the literal translation for this word is "knowledge", it's meaning is closer to "insight" or, to use a more modern concept, "enlightenment". Rather than purely an intellectual understanding then, it is a "knowledge of the heart" (which is not meant to imply mere emotionalism) or wisdom. It is the complete comprehension that comes from both rational and intuited means.
I thought the book was OK - not that impressed with it overall. I really wanted to like it because of all the hoopla and I love mystery novels. I think I'd have bought into the story more if it hadn't been compressed into a 48-72 (?) hour time frame. It seemed like the author was trying too hard.

Thanks! I'll check it out.
What is there to buy into? It's a fictional novel.Originally Posted by quailcreekgal
I read both of Dan's books (Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons), and as some have said, they are "page turners." Does he have any more?
I did not mind that in both of the books the time frame was short---very short; it gave an aire of hurry up fool. LOL
I do not know if there is any factual backing behind either book or not, and it makes no difference to me except that there was so much disclaiming up front that I wonder.
I think both books are good reads.
Yes, he has two others... Digital Fortress and Deception Point.Originally Posted by Oki_Man5
