Elemental and Coffee Slingers are so close that I would hate for them to have too much competition. So, I'm hoping for New York Bagels. I've been hoping they'll put a restaurant in Midtown, downtown, Bricktown or Deep Deuce for a long time. Or, the breakfast restaurant I've been wishing for as well.

Please explain how too much competition for coffee slingers would be a bad thing.

Moved in! But lacking furniture. :/ I'm the unit above the bar and grill with the guy talking on his cell phone (according to the renderings). Do you really expect them to put clear glass in on the balconies? The property manager hasn't told us much about any of the things that seem unfinished, I assume the baclonies are still being painted black however the steel coverings on the baclonies seem permanent as they have cutouts on the sides of them for electrical cords (the wall outlets are just outside the enclosure). I would love clear glass coverings!

Jeff, please post some photos of the interior, even if it's without furnishings.

It sounds like the balconies have been modified from that original rendering.

Is this about personality or coffee? They make the best latte in town, IMO. They have Prairie Thunder food. It's all good as far as I'm concerned. Elemental Coffee is great too. And they're both walking distance from 1212.

I do not want to get too side tracked, but I think the more competition the better. That is why some of these projects are so great, because they are trying to out do one another.

Even in the case of midtown and the midtown renaissance group that is responsible for most all renovations, so see the architects competing against one another-Krittenbrink vs Fitzsimmons and who can come up with the better plan/design.

I agree no more coffee shops .. I think of Prairie Thunder as a coffee shop as well.

    There's Beatnix cafe, too.

(Or are they much of a coffee place?)

And don't forget there is a Starbucks on the south side of St Anthony's.

  14. Default Re: 1212 N. Walker

I think we're still a little below-par when it comes to inner city coffee shop offerings, but upon second glance, it is better than people realize so I'll retract my suggestion that 1212 needs a coffee shop.

However Bricktown/Deep Deuce seriously need a coffee shop. Uncommon Grounds was great. Starbucks does not a coffee shop make. Have Elemental's hours been normalized yet? What downtown seriously needs, for one of these coffee shops to take a heavier role in neighborhood growth, is for one of them to stay open till 2am like Shades of Brown in Tulsa.

Cocoa Flow in Bricktown has great coffee and wonderful chocolates and sweets as well. They've got crepes as well as a variety of options.

  16. Default Re: 1212 N. Walker

I'll admit I've never had a hankering to pay Cocoa Flow a visit. But I grow tired of hearing, "X business serves coffee," as if it is a coffee shop. I will pledge to go pay Cocoa Flow a visit tomorrow morning and I will report back on whether I think it suffices as a potential neighborhood gathering spot, should Bricktown ever have a residential population.

    I do love crepes.

I'm sure that Cocoa Flow would be happy to have your blessing.

The Vagabond is a cool concept in Wichita. It's a coffee shop/bar that opens early for coffee drinkers and stays open until 2am for drinkers.

I'd like a Chipotle type offering.

Apparently not. Closed today. I was very excited about trying them as well.

They keep atypical hours. I tried to go by several times at different times of the day and they were closed. I've never actually seen it open.

  22. Default Re: 1212 N. Walker

Should change their name to Cocoa No Flow.

Decks have been painted black now.

    From today.

Those silver panels on the balconies are permanent and actually stainless steel.

And interestingly, the retail space on the ground floor goes all the way through from front to back. The area in the back (east end) is a few feet higher, though. Should make for some interesting configurations.
