Thread: TIESTO coming to OKC

  1. Default TIESTO coming to OKC

The out of town promoters who brought PVD thru were so impressed that they are interested in round two... Dj Tiesto!
John Bourke, shiny toy guns and myself have put our heads together, but cannot think of anyplace that would hold the size crowd he would bring...
Coca cola is too big and bar set up sucks, a parking lot in bricktown has to stop at 10, citywalk is too small and bobby wouldn't give the dj's a bartab...
    Any suggestions?

Maybe Cox center? I know people there. He usually brings out a huge crowd, but not sure he'd fill the Cox in OK...

There is the crown jewel of all concert venues................The Diamond

Wonder what percentage of the bands that pull up there for the first time say this out loud:

"You booked me for this piece of sh**"

I'd put it at about 90

i was thinking the diamond too. just saw a concert there the other day, and although i agree that its not the premier venue it seems theyve taken some steps and cleaned it up a bit.
easy, you are probably right that the bands think that, but they arent the big bands. big bands, nicer venues. oh well, every city has one.

That's great. I saw him a few years ago in Dallas... hope he comes to OKC and I hope this is just the beginning of a long list of great DJs to hit our city.

This is my son's favorite DJ and he would really really like to see this show but he is only 17 so... He recommends somewhere he could get in legally.

What capacity range are you looking at? Some of the exhibit halls at the Cox Center have horrible acoustics, I worked car auctions there and it didn't matter much but one concert in them was just excruciating. If you could get one of the refurbished rooms or do something with the acoustics in the larger ones (maybe drapes in front of the block walls) then the larger of those might be a good option.

I am so stoked Tiesto is coming here. That's like U2 coming here, but most won't realize it unfortunately! Please don't have it at the Diamond Ballroom, that place is a joke and an insult to big names. Any chance you can work with Banta and see if you can rent out the Tower Theatre on 23rd for one night? What about on OCU campus? ehhh Maybe not since they are a private Methodist university. Outdoors at TAFT stadium would be cool. Please not at Diamond or Coca-Cola though. Civic Center would have some awesome acoustics, but I doubt they'd trust a bunch of ravers to come in and treat the place with respect. I do agree with CCOKC that it should be an all ages show, unfortunately not enough Oklahomans are into the electronic scene. Promote this well and hopefully we'll get people driving from KC, Dallas, Tulsa, Little Rock, Fayetteville, etc.

Can someone explain to me what the draw of a dj is? Isn't it just a guy playing cds and records? I mean, its not like they are musicians or anything, right? Correct me if I am wrong, I just don't get it.

I was a club DJ in a previous life and it's really tough. Mixing songs together at the right tempo takes a lot of practice and skill. Guys like Tiesto do this but with their own music and effects. It's def not for everyone - but being an old DJ I can appreciate it.

I was thinking the arena. Probably too big unless we promoted the crap out of it...

Just saw Sasha & John Digweed at Red Rocks Ampitheatre this past Saturday and it was unbelievable. That venue is simply amazing. I'll definately try to go see Tiesto.

Does Will Rogers host concerts anymore? I kind of liked that place. That might be a good spot to consider.

Interesting. Definitely not for me though.

Definitely awesome to hear this! I have "In Search of Sunrise" volumes 4-7 & "Elements of Life". The first song of his that ever hooked me was "Carpe Noctum".

I don't see how the Coca Cola Events Center can be too big. I think that's perfect for a DJ that is this caliber of talent. You'd be surprised of the size of crowd this guy will bring in. His work is amazing.

OKC, we're not "surprised" the size of crowd he'd bring in, he'd bring in tens of thousands elsewhere.

Oh dear god that's funny...and sadly true. We so badly need a better venue for the indie bands to play. I guess the b-town events center is too pricey?

Lol...I know you're not "surprised" as you are "stoked" because you know what kind of artist he is. But other people on here who don't know his work or who he is are basically clueless.

I just saw on his Myspace page that it is planned for Monday, October 26th, as of now at City Walk. I do hope that changes! You can buy tickets through his Myspace page as of now. Of course, the link is to a website called inthebooth.com and you have to join to obtain the presale tickets. So if you don't want to spend $50 or $80 depending on the package you choose plus the price of tickets, then I'd just wait...which is what I'm going to do!

This is AWESOME, AWESOME news.... I would definitely like to see a bigger venue...

Just off the top of my head I would look at the Rose State venue.... I know Bryan Adams just played there.... and also what about the Fair Grounds Arena? Or even the Zoo.... Outdoors in late October for Tiesto would be awesome.

Keep them coming. After Tiesto I'd love to see Paul Oakenfold here.

Zoo could be cool. I saw the Crystal Method back in 99 outdoors in Wisconsin. Amazing show (gotta be dark out tho)

It requires skill indeed, but playing a guitar very well and fast requires more skill

Yeah outdoors at Zoo Amphitheatre! then another +1 for Paul Oakenfold. Promote the crap out of these shows and people will be driving from Dallas in droves.
