I must say my heart swelled a little a while back crossing the Oklahoma river on Western going South one morning... I always enjoy passing our domed capital, remembering all those years we had none. A while back I visited Tulsa and coming back I noticed how nice is our view from I235 and how clean and refreshing our City looked in comparrison. And I'm liking our new median on Classen lately and look forward to its completion.

Until just recently, I lived in Queenston Heights in Norman (for 10 years) and know the view you speak of. You must be in that new addition just North ("Plantation?") of where I used to live. It's a great view, and it's unbelievable how far you can see from Queenston Avenue just north of Kingston. Great distant vantage point for watching the skyline and even thunderstorms traveling through the I-240 corridor.

Since moving to Midtown in 2004, the skyline view from my back porch and second floor deck has been pretty damned nice. I'm really looking forward to seeing the changes to the skyline that take place when the Devon Tower is added in a couple of years.

Also... about two miles west of Riverwind Casino on Hwy 9 ( I think that is technically Blanchard ) there is a great view nearly the entire metro. On a clear day you can see downtown and the NW business district clearly as well as the "skyline" of Norman...the Enrgy Center etc.

At night it is a sea of lights.

I worked at Riverwind for two years... after work I would drive out that direction... just to look.... pretty

there's a hill around tecumseh rd & sooner that seems to put you higher than most of the metro area... breathtaking view at night.

Yup. The addition is "Park Hill". First night I moved in I watched lightening strikes hit all over the city. The kicker was that because of my elevation (about 1210 feet above sea level) I was about 100 feet above where the strikes were hitting looking down. Weird feeling.

I was going to mention that, but I thought I would leave a view from which most folks will have easy access. The only time I've ever been up there was the first ULI meeting. That was a cool view, and while it's definately going to get better when C2S starts maturing, it's going to be trumped by the new Devon Tower, and hopefully other ambitious future projects.

I would like to see someone develop a public space similar to Reunion Tower in Dallas so we could pay a couple of bucks (or 10) to get a nice vantage point of OKC. That view from the Petroleum Club is nice. But I have to say my favorite vantage point was the original one posted at NWX and Independence. I had no idea other people had the same idea. I used to have an office on the 7th floor of 5100 Brookline looking south. I got to watch the dome on the capital being built from that vantage point.

I thought it was my little secret, but I used to end a lot of dates looking over the skyline from atop the St. Anthony hospital parking garage. The security guards chase you out of there pretty quickly if you're "loitering". Fantastic vantage point, especially at night.

Yes, that's a great "in the middle of it" view. I shot some stuff in that spot for a video in college.

Beat me too it! That is certainly a unique view. It visually flattens the NW skyline with the DT one and makes quite an interesting composition.

I think this one gets passed up alot, but on Rockwell just south of Wilshire there is an open lot that gives a great view of the city. Take a glance next time anybody is in the area.

And NW Highway and Independence is the best view, imo,

Yeah its not the best but definitely the most unique view in the city. That view makes you wonder how big our DT would be if the NWX area buildings were downtown...at least the three tallest.

Well, mmonroe and donbroncho both beat me to posting as well. While it's not my favorite vantage point in town, the dam offers many scenic opportunities that let one imagine the prairie as it once was with an overlay of the modern, if you will.

That lot at Wilshire-ish and Rockwell, right before the correction turn if I read the map right, provides a stunning view of most of Lake Hefner and Edmond way beyond. I'd imagine if one could afford access to the nearby steeple of Cathedral of Praise---since there's an aircraft beacon at the peak of the steeple, I'd imagine access is quite possible---many panoramic photograph opportunities could be had.
