"La" Names

There seems to be a lot of people in Oklahoma with a "La" at the beginning of their name. I know a LaRae, LaRhonda, LaShauna, LaDonna and have heard many other "La" names....I've never actually met anyone with a "La" outside of Oklahoma and am just curious why it's so popular here. Anyone know? LaThanks.

It's definitely not an Oklahoman thing, it's more of an African American cultural thing. I used to live outside Atlanta. Enough said.

Actually the only people I've met with "La" names are white girls from Oklahoma.

Not sure where you're going with this, I'm assuming you are insinuating that this is a LaTrashy Oklahoma thing?

I do guardian ad litem work. My favorite name was a little bitty thing called Shyprecious. Right now, I have a case with Derrick and Derricka, children of Derrick Sr. We get some doozies. The names aren't all from african american families (although that culture certainly embraces non traditional names). A more helpful predictor is socio economic class. I promise you, most of the REALLY goofy names I run across are NOT from middle class families (I don't really consider Derrick and Derricka goofy because I can pronounce them and the spelling gives you a clue how to pronouce them). Middle class families are far more likely to name their child Jason than Jaeysunettafreeo, regardless of race. Sometimes I think there is an unwritten law that if you have a really silly nontraditional name you probably are not working. My guess is that as a result, those parents had way too much time on their hands.

What about the 'snooty' names that have become popular lately? I have well- off friends who named their children Emily, Abigail and Brady ( boy ). They call Abigail - Abby.. but still....

In my hometown in Maine there is a girl named Blueberry Independence (forgot her last name). She was conceived in the blueberry fields on the 4th of July. The only thing better than that is LaBlueberry LaIndependence.

That is awesome, I'm so going to use that. One of my alias' is Booty Reynolds. That was the real name of a customer of a friend of mine. I think I'll change it up and start going with LaBooty Reynolds.

Ok, legally I can't repeat this person's name from an old job of mine but I will say this...

Last name: Titsworth

And, the first name was so amazing, it fit the last name perfectly. This person had to have changed their legal name to their on stage stripper or porn star name... no one could be named that.
